I have worked booth, but the last 15 years is Salaried job, but they divide the payment by hour, and pay overtime if I need to stay, mind you that does not happens often but when it does is very nice.  I think that depends on the type of job and the company.  Hourly jobs are good pay for retailers, restaurants and stores that have schedules, and salary jobs, most of the times, are better for Companies that have office jobs.

Not really.  I don't care what the job is I would rather be paid by the hour.  I had an office job once that I was forced to work 12 plus hours a day.  If I were being paid salary where normally I would be paid on a base of 8 hours a day I am working 4 PLUS hours a day for free.  I hated the hours but did like the OT.  I only done it a couple weeks and told the manager it wasn't going to happen and I was not available for that kind of hours.

Salary jobs are better paying, but you can be taken advantage of.  Working more than your counterparts on hourly.  Hourly jobs can leave the job behind at the end of the day.

I've worked both.  Salary jobs are my preference.

Depends on the job. The only salary job I was offered I would make more money paid by the hour. And hourly or salary there will always be people who think they work harder than others. My thing is if you are taking care of you and doing your work you won't have time to worry about what I am doing.

Hourly for sure,  when you are salaried they can work you ad infinitum.  I now this from experience and the stress is not worth it!

When I worked at  Sears, I was the manager of the catalog department, it was an hourly  job. But when we closed it down I was asked if I wanted to go salary or stay hourly. I stayed hourly. Because I did not want to  work holidays or much overtime. Year right  I still worked them at times, but I got paid time and a  half,  with an extra day . So I always ended up making more then salary.  When I  quit to get married and moved where there was not a Sears store. I had 12 weeks of  vacation time, plus 6 weeks of comp time and 5 weeks of  health time that I had never  used.  I  seemed to be  always scheduled  for more time and was not  able to use it  all up at any given time.  Even though I took off several times a year. I loved my  job.

Hourly makes more sense to me but it generally works out to the same pay. I make a pretty large salary at my day time job but have always averaged fifty hours a week. The salary also comes with nine holidays per year, a decent mid year bonus, matching retirement fund, good health insurance, pays me and  a charity for volunteer time, and five weeks vacation. I work by the file at my night time job and make more per hour but do not get  vacation time, health benefits, and they only match one percent of my retirement plan  allotments. When I weigh everything out I actually make more at my night time/weekend job for less hours even with a lack of rosy benefits. Managers at the day time job all have to be on salary because the company works them pretty hard.

I work hourly.  I prefer it this way because those salaried end up working extra hours as I do, but they don't get paid overtime.

The problems with hourly jobs are:
           Not enough hours
           Few benefits, if any
           No seniority
The employer thinks: You are a temp

Given the choice I think I would take hourly because I would get paid for all the hours I work including time and a half after 40 hours.

Worked both and hourly is better, under salary always seem to be working more hours than I am paid for.

I've worked both. Salary was better (WHEN there was money coming in to pay the salary - which was not always the case). But the hourly overtime was a nice bonus when it came in.  I would take either of those options over present conditions!

How can it work out to the same pay?  Salary a lot of times will work 60 hours a week for their pay.  I guess if you take their pay and divide it by the hours worked then it comes out to about what hourly people make but you work more hours.  All the perks you mention are not offered to hourly employees on MOST jobs.

The majority of the jobs in this country are held by retail, fast food, and factory workers.  The management and office personnel get a ton of perks the "workers" do not get and they work a lot harder.
