coffee in the computer
« on: November 04, 2018, 05:16:30 am »
Yesterday my spouse spilled coffee on the laptop, not just a little .. a whole mug right on the keyboard.  Thought it was junk.  spent a while drying it out , worked okay but had no cursor/pointer.  restored settings to a few days earlier and so far it's working good, hopefully it will stay working.      Really don't want to have to go out now and get him a new one. 8)

Oh, my goodness!  Are you lucky!  Was your computer very new?  I have an old laptop that I am planning on replacing sometime in the next 12 months but it works just fine for what I use it for.  Maybe I will just keep using it until it literally dies.  However, I am glad that this incident does not seem to have affected your computer.

You are lucky.  A few years ago a disgruntled father came in our school demanding to see his daughter now!  Now this is not a regular school, it's for delinquent kids with or without parental involvement.  This dad had no right to be there and was getting madder and madder   He finally threw a big cup of soda at the one Secretary hitting her and the computer.   She was fine but the computer was ruined.

Oh wow . that is not good. I am glad you got it working again. Most people would just throw the thing away or bring it into repair. You have good knowledge on taking part the laptop. I know this old thing needs some repair but I will just bring it in. I am looking to get a new laptop on black friday. I have been saving my online earnings and I am up there :)

That's awful, hope it continues to work for you; I try and keep beverages away from my laptop for just that reason, always afraid I might do an accident spill myself; good luck.

Dang, that's why you don't have drinks like that near your computer, especially if doesn't have a lid, a secure lid.

Glad that all worked out for you. That is the reason I stay away from my laptop when drinking anything.

I've done that before with water. It's so annoying when that happens. But at least yours is mostly okay!

I went through that type of thing in college, but it wasn't coffee!!  So I had a few keys that didn't work and a couple other keys that were missing.

Hope it continues to work for you.  My daughter spilled a little Gatorade on hers and the keys were sticking but we took it apart and cleaned the keyboard with rubbing alcohol and seemed to do the trick.

I've never had that happen to me but a friend of mine did and she did she told me the steps she took...Switch the laptop off, remove the excess liquid and turn the laptop over then she used compressed air to dry the laptop and then rubbing alcohol to clean any sticky spots on the keys.  It worked for her. I'm so glad your laptop is working somewhat.

That is why I never keep drinks around the computer. I am always afraid I am going to spill something.
