Sleeping Habits
« on: October 06, 2018, 11:15:35 am »
Over the past 3-4 years since I have retired I have developed some little habits in regards to sleeping.  For one, I now sleep on my couch a bit more than in my actual bed.
Secondly, I have to have the TV on pretty low volume so I can just barely hear if I concentrate and with the timer on to shut off in several hours.
Thirdly, I have to have a fan on low, blowing lightly on me.  I also like that "white noise" sound.
Lastly, I have to have several pillows I can change around intermittently so they are cool to my head.  I am going to have to invest in one of those pillows which claim they remain cool to the touch.
What are your sleeping musts?

A lot of people sleep better if they leave the tv on. Maybe if it is someone who lives alone it helps them feel like somebody is there?

I prefer it be totally dark, a small fan going. But  hubby is up and down all most every night, turns the TV on in the living room and  sometimes every light on except the bedroom. But then he forgets and leaves the door open and the light wakes me up and then I can't get back to sleep very fast. . If I get up at night  I never turn a light on at all.  Don't need it. the light from the street lights is plenty. Boy are we mismatched at times. But I h have had to  learn to live  with it after 25 years.

I sleep with two pillows inside my pillow case, the fan always on me during the night, no noise from the T.V., like to have silence when i'm sleeping, noise keeps me awake.

I can't sleep with the tv on. But we do have a window ac unit that must be running, even in the winter(we live in Florida). I also had a low back issue so I always have a pillow under my knees or between my knees if I sleep on my side.

I have a regular sleep pattern. I rarely take naps during the day

I guess I should add that besides the light from the TV, all other lights need to be off. Also, it's too bad that after 25 years your husband doesn't have a clue about your need for dark when you sleep.  I'm afraid that after how long I have now lived alone I couldn't sleep with anybody in the same room, let alone the same bed, anymore.

I have to have a fan to keep me cool. And I wear earplugs because every noise wakes me up.  And I have to bring my pillow wherever I go.

Well I have to have a fan on but usually high not low so it blocks some of the street noise by my house.  I have done this since I was a kid.  I don't like to make my bed so I usually sleep on top of the covers lol and just cover up with a light throw.  I have to have two pillows and that is about it except for sleeping too darn much since I retired.  Well here is happy sleeping to all regardless of your sleeping habits.

When I go to bed, I must cover myself with a sheet.

When my husband worked overnight, I used to leave the TV on, super low volume - just enough to hear it but too low to understand what people were saying. It helped me feel less alone in the house, I guess. Now my husband works normal day hours, so the TV isn't on, but we have an air purifier in the bedroom that makes great white noise. I just wish I wasn't always SO WARM, even with low temps in the 30s-40s and windows open.

It takes me a while to get comfortable, especially if I'm not exhausted. I toss and turn a lot. Even if I'm warm, I like having at least a little bit of covers on. I don't know why but it feels weird sleeping without covers haha. I like having the TV on for a little, too.
