What do you think of people who don't want kids?

I never had that need to nurture children.  With that said, I have never become a parent, don't want to and most likely never will.

I have a husband and numerous cats.  That is quite enough to keep my days filled to the full.

Nothing wrong with not wanting kids, but when you get old who will take care of you?

Having children is no guarantee that they will take care of you.  Believe me, I know plenty of people all of whom have different relationships with their children.  Some are quite good, some are just okay, and some don't get along at all and rarely see each other.  You may be a very good parent but the child feels no responsibility to care for you in any way as you age.  Myself, I value my independence, and although i would like a little help in some way now and again as I age, I in no way expect them "to take care of me."

I think that more people that don't really want kids should follow that same rule. Too many people don't realize the work and money that goes into raising kids. I really don't mind if people say they don't want kids.

I have kids, I always dreamed of being a mother, but it's perfectly fine if someone doesn't- people should be able to live their lives as they see fit and not according to what society says we should do/be because society isn't financially supporting those kids or staying up with them all night or stressing when they're teens and think they know more than you

I don't have any kids, and don't want any. My experience from babysitting has shown me this is something I don't want for myself.

Hey, cats are a big responsibility too! lol Be happy with your cats, live your life for yourself.

I'd be curious to get some feedback from both those who have kids and those who don't.

I don't hate kids. I just don't think I'd enjoy being a parent. I like to sleep in on the weekends, relax with some good tv, open a bottle of wine and enjoy my life. I feel like kids would get in the way of that.

Not to mention kids would inevitably lead to conflict in a marriage. My ex-husband wanted kids, and he wanted them to attend Catholic schools. I said absolutely not because (1.) I'm not Catholic, and (2.) There are good public schools in the area.

I have 3 cats. They're like my children. I feed them their breakfast before I get something to eat. One day, if I'm able to retire, I'd like to volunteer at an animal shelter (and maybe get first dibs on all the cool cats!! Lol). Cats are my passion in my life. Not children.

Does that make sense to you? Both parents and non-parents? A part of me feels like I let my parents down because I'm an only child and they want grand kids, but I'm also gay and would adopt if I did have children.

I want to live my life for me. Is that so selfish? Maybe it is. Positive and negative replies welcome.

I wouldn't trade any of our six kids for anything, because without them we wouldn't have our 13 grandkids (2 married) or the great grandkids that are sure to come.

It's each persons choice. And with the population it is great that some don't have kids when others have 12.

I'm one of those people.  Never wanted kids.  It's none of my business what other people do.  I'm living for me and no one else.

I see nothing wrong with you not wanting children. If you feel that way it is better for you NOT to have kids as apposed to those who have them and sadly get rid of them.
