My daughter-in-law asks us to remove our shoes before entering her home and we're used to that now. Plus we love her very much so we're willing to make her happy. I'll do it for other people as well if they ask me to because it's their home and I want to follow their rules.

I guess it would keep your house cleaner, and possibly more germ free. But I would not feel comfortable asking people to take off their shoes in my house, so I don't do it at my home.

No, I would never do that to a guest.  My youngest brother does though.  When my sister and I go to visit him for a week every year or 2 we have to take our shoes off everytime we enter his house.  We usually take a pair of houseshoes or other CLEAN slip-ons and leave them on the screened in porch to use to enter his house because neither one of us like walking without something on our feet.  lol  He has had cats for years and they cough up hairballs and I sure don't want to step on one.  Guess he thinks his cats are cleaner than our wiped-off shoes   And, just the other day a lady told me she does the same thing at her house unless you come in the back door and stay in the kitchen that is not carpet.

He has cats that hack up hairballs on the floor and he is okay with that but not okay with someone wearing shoes in the house? People are foolish. Feet are nasty and have tons of germs on them.

You shouldn't have to ask guests to remove their shoes! That's rude to go tromping through someone's house with shoes on.

lol. No it isn't.  If a person had 3 inches of mud on their shoes then yes it would be rude to track red clay mud all over someone's home. But just in general no it is not rude to walk in to a house and not take your shoes off.  I don't take my shoes off when I come in to my house and I would not tell people to take their shoes off when they come to visit.

I am not like the 3 year olds that any where they go as soon as they get their they yank their shoes and socks off and throw them in the floor like it is their personal bed room.

I have never had to ask guests to take off their shoes, because they have always automatically done it. It's just being polite and respectful of other people's homes and belongings. Maybe you like to clean your carpets constantly, but I don't! Lol!

I think I have asked before because there are a lot of people who actually walk around their house with their shoes on. I don't get it, but people do. I take my shoes off when I go into other's home.

Some cultures have the custom of shoe removal before entering one's home as a guest! The Asian culture are big in this area & kids are practically born with this custom ingrate in them from birth. Me, I just don't invite anyone in my house, I'm too embarrassed with clutter around me!

When the kids were young, I always asked them to take off their shoes before you walk into our house to keep it new longer smells better, well nobody understood that so no. but now, he just moved into his home so sweet, so as I was about to step on his brand new rug, he asked me to take off my shoes, he told me not to feel bad because he tells everyone that and they do, he has a place for shoes. Then his memory of his youth crept-in he began to smile and still a secret but I get better gifts from him on holidays I swear  :present:

Some religious places are like that too.  I don't invite people to my house because I just don't like a lot of company. lol.  I am picky about who I let in to my home.  Close family or friends and that is it.

I used to when I had light carpet, but stopped because most people don't like doing it including me if I'm not wearing socks.

We prefer that they do, but do not make a big issue if they don't, my 87 year old mother for instance never does! but most of our other family and friends try and respect our wishes. I keep a basket of  clean footies  for those who prefer to put them on.

I personally have never done it but as a kid when mom got her new carpeting shoes came off in the kitchen before you hit her new rugs.  LOL

I don't request it, but my son does to protect his hardwood floors.
