Pests in the garden
« on: August 29, 2018, 09:21:17 am »
It's the time my vines should be pumping out pumpkins, but I have some critter visiting my yard every night nibbling off the young fruits and flowers.  >:( What kind of pests do you have in your garden and how do you get rid of them?

you might have earwigs aka pincherbugs, I had a heck of a time with them this year, but they are mostly gone now. Do you think its a bug? Or maybe bunnies?

For earwigs, I use a empty sourcream container, you want something bout 3-4" deep. Pour a couple tablespoons of cooking oil in, about 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, mix it, now bury the majority of the bowl in the ground next to your pumpkins, you want just enough where they can crawl in and fall down and they will drown. The soy sauce is a must as that is what draws them in.

I dont put the lid on, some people do, and then punch holes around the container just under the lid so they can crawl in, I change mine every week or 2 depending on how many bugs I get in there

If your still not sure, look it up on youtube to show you what Im trying to say :)

I don't have a garden but we do have raccoons and possums that visit our carport nightly to share with the cat's food lol.  We pretty much have given up on trying to get rid of them. They get along with the cat and don't cause problems so we just let them be.

it can be very discouraging to work so very hard on getting your garden planted and growing just to have critters eat the fruit of your labor.  I have fencing but that still doesn't work.  I still do the same thing the next year.  at least I got some tomatoes this year.
