It would seem that John McCain was the last of the true statesman this country was founded by, it seems like everyone else in government is just in it for themselves.

Agree.  We need more like John McCain.  Willing to work across the aisle and wanted what was best for the people.

He would have made a fabulous President had he been elected, but I am glad he was able to continue to make his mark in the Senate in lieu of the White House.

It's funny - I heard a strong left liberal comment today that "Tump has already ordered the flag back to full staff! What an insensitive idiot he is!" (I hadn't heard this myself and am not expressing an opinion on that decision here - but it wouldn't surprise me considering the rift between Trump and McCain).

But my point is that this same person criticizing Trump now for being insensitive to McCain's death is the same person who ten years ago would have been calling McCain a despicable racist conservative woman hater...

Another irony I heard yesterday.  The same form of brain cancer killed both McCain and Ted Kennedy. And they both died on the same date - nine years apart.

I had great admiration for John McCain.  If only more of our elected officials would have his compassion for America and the people of this nation.  He was a true American Hero.  I lost a good friend last week to the same nasty cancer that took Senator McCain and Ted Kennedy.  He was a very skilled ophthalmologist and a four-tour Vietnam veteran.   RIP, Dr. Earl.
Have a wonderful day!

Sixty years of service to our country is remarkable with the last two probably the most challenging due to his decency, love of the country and patriotic history. No using college to avoid service. The picture of health that didn't rely on a temporary foot malady to avoid service. McCain was the third generation to serve in the United States Navy, survived a warship fire, was shot down/injured for our country, Five years as a prisoner of war, tortured and still refused an out of sequence repatriation. A politician since 1982-thirty five years experience made him a far better presidential prospect than so many. People would be hard pressed to find someone who cared more about the country than he did.I did not support all of his decisions nor do I support the majorityof decisions made by any one individual.   I do not affiliate with any one political party, preferring to stay independent, voting on issues that support the country rather than a party. But John McCain was solid...truly, rest in peace.

I didn't like him in the beginning but after hearing about his history of the good things he'd had done & the moral compass he kept in his heart from beginning to the end.....he's truly a Hero to our Country, the American people! He would've made a really great President with his moral compass, & belief in working together with both Republicans & Democrats; we wouldn't be in this mess we find us in with that clown in the White House right now! RIP Senator John McCain! A truly great loss to the America!
