I heard a similar argument on the radio the other day by a person who is a size zero. This individual felt that she should pay less for her clothes, jewelry because not as much material went into the production of the merchandise. A size fourteen dress from Prada requires considerably more material than a size zero dress from Prada. Why should the petite person pay the same price for less material? My wife's wrists are so tiny that when purchasing a diamond tennis bracelet we had to remove one inch which was twenty percent of the bracelet. Shouldn't we have received a one thousand dollar break on the five thousand dollar price? A Louis Vutton Purse is considerably more expensive than a Louis Vutton Check book because of the extra material involved (both are over priced in my eyes).

I don't think stores should have to be required to sell certain sizes.  That's what stores that carry larger sizes are for.  We are all different - we all have a different need and fit.  Would a petite person expect to find something that fits them in a Big and Tall store?  And if they didn't find what they want then they can sue?  That's just ridiculous.  I know people who have to have there clothes made for them custom.... for bit being big or small.

hello everyone
so i was  helping my friend shop for some clothing this weekend and we went to 4 different stores
because she couldn't find anything in her size  and i mean granted she was looking  for all white  clothing  3X
for religious reasons   and we found white stuff but whether it was a shirt or dress  there just didn't seem to be anything  in her size  and by the last store she was starting to get discouraged  so i was thinking to myself  i wounder if places like Ross and other big named stores  were purposely only putting small and medium sized clothing out and prejudices against
full figured  and plus sized women possibly even men   which i think is    so messed up considering that Ross is nothing more than a thrift store with a fancy name  but i feel like i remember when Kmart got sued because they didn't carry plus sizes  idk  let me know what you guys think ?

Well I see it the complete opposite.  When I am looking for something all I can find is huge sizes.  No, I don't think the stores are prejudice against anyone and I think that suggestion is ridiculous.  When you get too picky in size and color you are going to drastically reduce the choices you have in the stores.

Without meaning to sound insensitive, what size are you talking about?

While inconvenient and frustrating for sure, I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the argument that it is somehow discriminatory. I know that it is comparing apples to oranges, but I cannot tell you how many times I have found a particular shirt or pair of pants that I really liked, but it turned out that the store didn't have it in the size that I needed...  In those cases I was just out of luck.

I hope that your friend finds/found something suitable. But if not, aren't there plus size stores or catalogs that she can order from?

Because it is what people do.  I could say the same thing.  I could say the stores are prejudice against me for being smaller.  People just look for reasons to be offended and the saying somebody is prejudice against you is foolish and way over used.  The stores carry the sizes that sell.

Most stores are not going to carry a lot of 3x or 4x or larger because it is going to sit on the rack and nobody is going to purchase it.  That costs the stores money.  You can order stuff online if you need a completely ridiculous size and style.

Every store I go in seems to have more of an extensive Plus section than they do a Petite section (which is what I wear)  I generally have to have all my dress slacks hemmed as it's just hard to find something that fits otherwise without the  pants dragging  the floor.  And, I've discovered there mostly is a difference between Petite and Short lol

I don't think it's discriminatory.  It can be frustrating but, you mentioned that she is also looking for white.  How popular are white clothes?   I don't buy anything white because it doesn't stay white so that could be a big part of it.  They aren't going to stock things that don't sell.  Their whole purpose in existing is to make money so they can pay their bills.

 :glasses-nerdy: :silly: When I go shopping I have a tuff time finding my size, when my pant size is not plus size's. I wouldn't think getting this upset over stores with the wrong color or size. Maybe the stores have been picked over before you arrived to that store. Shopping is frustrating for all sizes!  :glasses-nerdy: :silly:

I'm a size 16 jeans, and if I sued every time a store was out, I'd be talking to lawyers a lot.

I have a hard time finding my shoe size? Why? Because as soon as they get s shipment in a certain group of people runs in and buys them ALL and there is nothing left. I never thought about starting a movement that they were discriminating against me.  Although I have asked why they don't order MORE of this particular size since they immediately sell out.

It really does suck that it's hard to find clothes when you are bigger.  Lots of stores sell stuff in bigger sizes but they're usually kind of on the ugly size.  Makes people feel as if they don't have the right to look good if they are bigger.  Has she looked online for sites like lane Bryant???
