7 Reasons Why People Lie

Think we have all lied something in our lives but hopefully as we get older we realize it is wrong, but still have reached the truth to protect others.

I don't believe in "white" lies. Lies are lies. Whether they're small lies or big lies, eventually the truth comes out.

I'd rather someone told me something that will hurt me temporarily, versus being lied to and later finding out I was deceived. Now you're adding trust issues on top of it.

I also think people lie out of fear.  Seriously fear of someone getting angry with them.  Doesn't have to just be fear of punishment.  I don't like being lied to but I do understand sometimes the motivation people have to lie isn't the worst.

Unfortunately all of them remind me of people I know.  I do feel there are more reasons.  Not to say that you are suggesting these are the only reasons.  I think the worse is when people lie so much that they are just used to lying so they keep on lying even in situations where it serves them no purpose.

I agree I think some people may become so used to doing it that they don’t even know the truth. It becomes a part of their daily lives these people need some serious help so they can stop the cycle. Or the ones who lie to cover lies

2.  To escape accountability

3.  To create a fantasy/false self-esteem to escape their mundane life

4.  To avoid punishment

5.  To inflict pain

6.  To feel better in the moment; to “steal” admiration

7.  To gain advantage to exploit others

Studies have shown that 1 in 5 times a person speaks, they are telling a lie. It's easy to call someone a liar, because most of us lie quite frequently. That being said though, those who lie for the reasons stated above are likely sociopaths.
