Got 3 yrs before I can retire...I'm going at 62....know I'll lose money that way but figured with surveys and a p/t job I'll do okay, plus selling stuff on Ebay....I'm a simple living guy...

What's with the "Semi" part, I jerked the plug when I was 62 and never looked back. Now August 3 I celebrate 80 with a big party.

May just be me, but I'm guessing the OP had a survey that asked about his/her status of employment and it did not offer a retired option - then the OP, not realizing that FC and the survey panel are not one and the same - decided to vent here in the forum.

The true definition of the term "retired" is ever changing.  It used to mean when you left you job of 30+ years and spent all of your time enjoying leisure activities and hobbies, living off of a pension and/or Social Security.  Today, most "retired" folks (meaning collecting said pension/SS) still have to hold a job to make ends meet. Others just can't stop working, my girlfriend's husband has "retired" from the Navy and the Post Office, collects pensions from both, and still works.

I left my "job" 8 years ago to create my own income streams.  I worked harder than ever before, but I did it on my schedule without commuting or spending a fortune on a "career wardrobe."  I am free to schedule in leisure activities and my "hobbies" all create additional streams of income. 

So, your opinion, am I retired?  Is this the definition of semi-retired?  What's your definition?
