Do you have any monthly box subscriptions?
« on: June 21, 2018, 07:00:18 am »
I had a Birchbox subscription for a couple years. I let it go to pay down a credit card. Then a year or so ago one of the people I play WoW with mentioned Universal Yums: snacks from around the world. I finally broke down and signed up for it at the end of May.

Got my first box on the 19. It's from Brazil. There's been three things I like so far (I got an offer to 'move up' from the basic box of 6 goodies to 12 for $5 less this month), and two I went "Nope."

I tried one of these $5 box deals and quit immediately. I could buy the same quality product from the Dollar Tree for a buck and not have to pay outrageous shipping charges.

I've thought about trying one the fresh food boxes, but I decided it would be less expensive to go to the store and get my own fresh food.

I guess I don't really understand why someone would get one of these. They're more expensive than just buying the products yourself.

Ive tried the graze box (snacks), the first box was free, but canceled it, it was fun, but not worth the amount you would have to pay monthly for it

i read this and still don't know what this box subscription thing is lol

You pay a subscription (depending on the service, anywhere from 15 to 70 dollars -- the food ones tend to fall into the higher range) and get a box of what that service offers once a month. For example, Birchbox is makeup and beauty product samples.  They don't offer Maybelline, Cover Girl, or other brands you can easily find in drugstores and shopping malls. Some of them are foreign, some are high-end designer, some are from online only small companies, etc. If you're into makeup and perfume, and can swing the cost ($15) , it's a nice little monthly treat.

Universal Yums, like I said, offers candy and snacks from other countries. There's one that offers comic book and movie collectables (that's one of the more expensive ones). There's even a subscription goodie box for people who like Bigfoot and paranormal topics!

Yeah, LootCrate is great for people who really, really like collecting pop culture stuff. Doesn't appeal to me.

Definitely sounds like a scam to me. Most of those subscriptions are, unless you have lots of money that you don't know what to do with!

I subscribed to Winc -- get 6 bottles of wine a month for about $40.  Got paid $10 to try it and $10 for my second shipment.   Cancelled after the 2nd $10 credited!  :)  I LOVE wine, so it was a deal for me1

I tried Graze and the contents weren't all that good, at least for me.
