No, because making small talk to someone isn't going to make their life better, you got problems, work on it, having a bad day, pray about it, its not a requirement.

Making small talk most def CAN make their day better.  Yeah most people have problems. But there are a lot of people who are neglected and don't have a lot of friends or family and someone being nice to them in public can make a difference in their day. It can lift their spirits.

I am having a discussion on another site where a snotty woman is complaining because cashiers have asked her about products she is purchasing. She claims they stand there and read the back of the box like a novel (which I do not believe - I have NEVER seen a cashier do this) and how they need to not waste her time or other customers and on and on about not being professional.

I have also had a discussion, do not remember where, in which people are offended if someone asks them where they got their shirt, shoes, bag, or whatever.

So my question is this - does it bother you if someone asks you where you got your shoes, or maybe your child's shoes, or shirt or something like that?  Personally, it doesn't bother me.  If I remember I will tell them.

And, does it bother you if a cashier asks you a question about something you are purchasing?  I have had cashiers ask what it is used for or if it is good (if it is food) and I do not care at all to answer them.  I think some people just look for reasons to be offended.

Hello! :D :)

Life is short so no I wouldn't be offended. It mostly depends on the situation and how the question is being asked. The rest is up to you on how you react. :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:  :rose:

Well yeah if they walk up and say that is the ugliest shirt I have ever seen in my life. Where did you get it trashisus.com? Why would you wear something that gaudy?  Then yeah, I would be offended. haha

But hey, I like your shirt, where did you get it? I have found that more people than not are offended. I am not sure why. I think as I have said before, people are just in general angry.

I don't mind a cashier asking me where I bought something. And unless it's some very personal hygiene item or something, I don't think I'd care if they asked about one of my purchases. I have had a handful of cashiers ask me perplexed how I plan to prepare certain foods I'm buying, lamb usually gets that response. I'm not offended, but I do think it's a little weird since they work at a place that sells it, why are they acting like it's bizarre that someone would buy it.

Some hygiene items it could be a sincere question. Like the adult pull ups that are generic if they ask if they work as well as the name brand. Doesn't mean they think YOU wear them.  But if you are buying them then obviously you know about the product. And if they are asking then they most likely need to buy them for someone they know.
