I recently moved down south to a very rural area surrounded by trees. I put a hummingbird feeder hanging from the soffit right outside my window and I cannot tell you the hours of enjoyment I have gotten just watching them feed. It sounds like a swarm of bees when a bird is out there and they are so tiny!! Now...how the heck do you get the song bird to visit the other feeder? Song birds everywhere and they don't notice the food I put out  :(
Get another feeder and put out grape jelly you will attract  the Baltimore Oriole  they are wonderful singers , just beware of ants.

Oh no i forgot about the poor widdle ants !!   they need some food too....  ::) :P ::)

Squirrels are funny in that way.  If I had nothing better to do, I could watch them all day.

what is the attraction/appeal of having a bird feeder? My parents bought one this year...still hadn't figured out why lol

I like watching the birds. My cats like watching the birds. And I like feeding the birds.

Mine is to see if i can get a odd bird to show up....  i gave up and  i have humming bird feeders  its cheap just sugar and water !

As for the squirrels  i thought oh how cute,  I found out how cute they were when they invaded my storage unit, and tore up all my stuff and chewed the wires in my car engine causing shorts every where,  they chewed all my pictures up making nests , trashed all my sweaters in crates they chewed threw , pooped and peed in 95% of my stuff , had nuts stashed every where , i cried and still cry from squirrels ... pictures of my mom i'll never replace  GONE, they were the kind of picture you took 40 years ago.  and were in albums !

Yikes!  I can def understand why you dislike them.

Squirrels are tasty in gravy over biscuits... :highfive: :silly: ;)

Gross lol
Idk though I hear they taste like chicken.  But I never been brave enough to try and yes I had the opportunity one evening.  I did try rabbit one day but didn't like it at all.

I know this will enrage certain people - but I spray cans of raid all over them. lol

And if that isn't handy I spray them with Febreeze.  It kills em dead too!

Wonder if she eats chicken? Or hamburgers? I have a hard time grasping how people determine which animals it is okay to eat and which ones it isn't.  Got a friend who has 2 pigs and their names are bacon and sausage.
He also has cows names ribeye, ground chuck, and several other names that are completely hilarious but I don't remember at the moment.

I used to buy "squirrel baffles" (think that is what they are called) for the shepherds hook They block the squirrel from getting very high on the feeder. Not expensive, and and they work. I am sure you can buy online, and garden centers.

I too think squirrels have beady eyes....they are rodents, like a rat, with a poofy tail (that makes them "endearing" to many).

I have had squirrels in the walls at an old place I lived in. Got scary.

filling, and delicious!

Ingredients (serves 4)

2 cleaned squirrels (whole of in pieces)

1/2 lb of pork sausage (optional)

8 cups of water

1 cup whole milk

1 teaspoon of black pepper

1 teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon of ground sage

1/3 cup corn starch

8 biscuits (homemade or store bought)

Directions

Place water, squirrels, 1/2 teaspoon of pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of ground sage into a large pot.  Bring it to a boil.  Then reduce heat and allow it to simmer uncovered for 1 hour.  After 1 hour, remove from the water, peel the flesh from the bones, and chop as fine as you prefer.  I like mine a little chunky so I cut the pieces to under 1/4″ or so.  Save 4 cups of the remaining broth and pour it and the whole milk into a 3 quart pot.  Now brown the pork sausage in a large skillet adding in the chopped squirrel meat.  Once the sausage is cooked, drain the drippings into the pot already containing the squirrel broth and set the skillet aside (with the meat).  Bring the broth to a high simmer and add the remaining salt, pepper, and sage.  In a separate bowl, add the corn starch and just enough water or left over broth and mix it into a slurry.  Slowly poor the liquid starch into the broth, stirring as you go.  Reduce heat to a low simmer and continue stirring.  As the broth begins to thicken, add the meat and continue stirring until it reaches the consistency of gravy.  Pour it over your favorite biscuit and enjoy!

Notes:  I have also made this same recipe using rabbit in place of the squirrel and it is just as good.  The fat in the sausage adds a richness to the flavor, but if you are a purist and balk at the inclusion of the pork sausage, thinking it ruins perfectly good squirrel, have no fear.  In place of the pork, add one more squirrel, one more cup of whole milk, and use one less cup of broth.

I like all animals, and they all have reason to live, but i do eat meat and hunt, and did raise all my own at one time. I respect all that lives, and my farm animals were given the very best of every thing while i was raising them .. so they had a happy life while it lasted.  I've fed squirrels and i've , hunted them ! But they really did unreal damage to my things.  Some of the sweaters where thing from my mother... its really hard to let that stuff go.  And the pictures,  well i cry just thinking about  of it..  I only have about 6 pictures out of 100's.

I like my outdoor life, even if they pee all over the place, my wires are protected too. I have stray cats here and I feed the wild birds squirrels etc. and I feel it is the cycle of life if they catch couple to eat. but I have my froglets in the house still because squirrels eat frogs, even though, my American PitBull Frogs they are just babies so no, they are still in my aquarium not in my pond, that is weird too. My JC is a house-cat only goes outside on a leash

Weird is if the squirrel waved, flipped you off and such, squirrels survive by paranoia and knowing who and what is around.

Any way you look at it, they do have beady little freaky eyes, they are gross, they are rodents and they are a pain in the bootie.  Lord forbid if they ever get into your attic.  They are not leaving no matter what you do unless you set traps.  And they smell.
