Dropping in

Does it bother you when someone just drops by your house without you knowing first?

If it's my brother I don't mind.  I had some cousins drop by last year even though they live pretty close (one of them doesn't drive) I don't see them often so it was a pleasant surprise.  I don't have a lot of people visit my house.  My friends live out of state.

It does matter who it is and if they do it often.

That never happens to us, so I can't really say how I feel about it.  But I suppose it is like others have said and it just depends on who it is.  If it was close family or friends, I think it would be a nice surprise (unless I was in the middle of some important or time sensitive project).  On the other hand, if it was the FBI showing up unannounced - it probably would bother me.

Yes. Because I plan out my day & when someone just shows up it throws it all out of order.  Fortunately, this rarely happens that someone just shows up.   If they did, I wouldn't be rude about it, just deal with it.... it's very rude to show up without a phone call so the person can prep for the visit.  Pretty much everyone has cell phones these days, no reason not to call.

Just my 2 cents.

Sort of.  I love to have people come over, but sometimes I am not dressed or sweaty from cleaning.  So I would prefer they call first so I can be ready to enjoy them.

Yes, not only dropping in but also long phone calls. When I was working at home, it was the old story. They didn't believe I needed to put in my 8 hours. They never believe me when I said I couldn't talk or visit because I was working. They thought I could just drop everything and pay attention. I did make an exception for my friends living in KY since they rarely came to PA and they would only stay an hour or two because they were on their way to his sisters for a visit 100 miles away.

It rarely happens to me.  Maybe once a year.  I have a very small family and circle of friends.  Everybody knows that i don't appreciate just dropping by without a phone call and that I don't do it to them. I'm not a natural hostess.  I've had a few friends and an ex-mother-in-law that it just didn't rattle them no matter what.  It does me! Particularly if they stay over 15 or 20 minutes!!

Hate it !!!!    Years ago my dad did that and  I said "Stop  it !!!"   20 years later he had a stroke it and learned his lesson. Now he's in assisted living and listens.   Life is a learning experience.

I guess it would depend on who it is.  But that hasn't happened to me in quite a few years.  With cell phones I don't see any reason someone wouldn't call first.  At least to make sure you are home.

It rarely happens because most people that stop by know to call to ensure that we home especially in the summer.  Since we are near Chicago in the summer we are usually out every night at a car show, park or downtown.

I don't mind. I'm a "the more, the merrier" type person. I enjoy company and entertaining.
