Self Employed and 3 kids to raise, its hard.

Hats off to all the self-employed and single parents! It is not easy at all! My wife was in a great corporate position for the first twelve years of our children's lives. She had to travel four out of five working days per week and missed the joys that come with being a parent. Technically I was a single parent but by day and worked wile the children slept. She missed all of memories of the children's formative moments and I missed out on more than three hours of sleep per day. I had thirty years of self employment and started hitting it harder when the kids were in school. Self employment was nice, very lucrative, but not as steady as a salaried position. I miss my self employed days, now that I am in corporate America, because I could work less and make so much more but it is kind of nice letting the company take care of the headache clients.

I'm sorry and I do think I know how it must feel!  I had two children who are now grown and on their own but I was divorced for some of their childhood.  My oldest daughter has also been raising her one daughter alone since birth.  Maybe the difference is that she got a college degree and was lucky enough to land a pretty good paying job!  I do feel for you!  It must be trying to raise three children.  It is a lot of responsibility.  It is even more trying when you have a limited income.

I have one and she is 20, almost 21, but during the years when she was younger, it was a stretch with money being short and far in between, but with the help and prayers to God, I did the best I could, there is one good thing that came out of this is she never got pregnant while in school, so I'm grateful. She wants to wait until she gets married.

Been there - It was hard, exhausting and enlightening. I was lucky and had an amazing support group.  A mother who helped as much as she could with my kids and friends and other parents that pitched in to helped each other.  I think as a single parent I was stricter on my kids more than I would have been if I'd stayed married.

So many different life situations but they all come down to the same thing for a lot of us - it is hard to make it.  I am in the best financial situation I have been in my whole life at 64 years of age and it is still hard to make it.  It costs a lot to live today and I am on SS disability and blessed to have a small retirement check besides and lol I do mean very small but I make it to pay my bills and eat.  So I know how hard it is when I was raising my kids and hubby was alive it was still hard because my husband only got a real small disability from a young age.  Hang in there hopefully you will be able to earn a good supplement from FC.

It is awful when you are the only one who is responsible for paying your bills etc.  Most of all taking care of your children can be draining when there is no one elsewhere round to give you a break from worrying about paying the bills and being there for your children.
