Any Computer "Geeks" here?
« on: April 27, 2018, 05:35:30 pm »
Somehow, yesterday, my email program changed. i use Outlook Express and when I click on strange new email icon, i get my bookmarks and emails from 2011!!!!! I've been trying to figure it out for 2 days and don't know what's happening.

Also, playing games is so jerky and as slow as molasses. This started last week. I thought it was the game site, not me. I tried to restore to an earlier date but that's messed up, too. It comes up "incomplete."

I ran my anti-virus and they didn't find anything, nor malware. I hope my computer isn't dying. :(

It's driving me nuts. i had to go onto Xfinity/Comcast email and I hate using it. I hope someone can help.  Please....(on hands and knee).

Anyone have an idea?    ???

Spent the afternoon trying to get rid of the old scan program I used for years. I didn't upgrade this last time because they never answered a support problem I had...and they were kinda sneaky. They put some programming on that I couldn't get rid of by the Add or Remove Program, nor manually removing them. CCCleaner did it (I hope. I restarted my computer but didn't check this time 'cause I have a beaut of a headache from it.)  Anyway, still the old email and it keeps asking for my password which I have no idea. This was back in 2011!

I'm afraid if i delete or upgrade to Outlook Express "something," I'll still lose my current contacts and folders. I would hate that!

Have you updated your operating system recently?  Sometimes that can cause a glitch.

No. I'm still on XP. I have Windows 7 here but some of my programs are digital and i'll lose them if i upgrade. I even lost the ability to go on the 'net this morning. I did a restart and that came back. i'm using Xfinity for my emails and that's how I got on FC,  but hate it.

I still say my anti-virus did something because I didn't renew and this is when a lot of odd things started happening. Am I paranoid?

You're asking the wrong person about being paranoid about computer malfunctions

When mine messes up, I figure it's because the NSA guy listening in didn't like something I said.   ;D

There is a program that you can download for free that will recover all passwords that you have had and still have on your computer.  It works quickly and efficiently.  I forgot many passwords on my pc and it drove me nuts.

Maybe try this program and see if you can get your old password for the email and you can go from there.

the program is (DASHLANE.COM).  Good luck and hope it works.

Well, spent the day uninstalling the program i thought was causing the problem. Gee, the SOB has locked some functions and i can't remove them. I still think this is my problem. My screen goes to black sometimes, too, when I'm doing something.

I'm so confused on this. Some web sites load so slowly or not at all. I'm worried. I can't afford a new computer. i know mother boards aren't that expensive anymore. I spent time yesterday backing up my genealogy files to CD but when I checked, they were all  "read only." i'm really up the creek now. :(

I still want to transfer my files to "something," just in case, but don't know what to use now, because I want to keep them on my computer if it's not the hard drive. I have all my pictures on the hard drive and all my genealogy files. A lot of work has gone into all of them.

Do you think it might be my motherboard going?  Or my hard drive?    Any idea?
