Well for a laptop it depends on the type you get since it could be garbage. But anyway pros for a laptop would be portable, wireless, lightweight, good amount of ram usually 2-3 gigs, good hard-drive space, most have good overall specs for your browsing and shopping and such. Cons would be that the wireless can be buggy sometimes, the mousepad can somewhat be annoying, some laptops can break easier.

Desktops can be bad as well, just depends on your model, processor and such. Pros are that they can hold bigger hard-drives, better specs (depends), capable of high amounts of ram (max of 7 with vista), wired connections which won't crash unexpectedly like laptops can. Cons im not to sure of since i don't find really much wrong with a desktop.

Hope i could be of some help  :)

Well, a lot of that depends on what you use the computer for most often.  Could you help us out with more details?

Desktops can usually handle more high end graphics card and have more options if you want to upgrade but it really depends on the model. If you play the most recent games online a desktop might be better. Also you generally will have a bigger monitor wit a desktop. You can hook a laptop to a bigger monitor but performance won't be as good for demanding graphics games. Most new laptops should be fine if you are just surfing the internet and using office apps and that type of thing. If your near a router you can always hardwire in for internet but most new wireless cards I have used work fine. Also hooking in a USB mouse is typically just a matter of plugging it in. I would say go for the laptop unless you want to use it for high end gaming. You can always get an external hard drive if you need more storage also.

:( Dear DarkStormy: I agree- The mousepad on laptops are very annoying...I hope someday the laptop makers come with a different mousepad, easy to operate. By the way, did you know you can plugin a regular mouse on the side or back of your laptop? Also, a printer and other accessories. I hope this helps those who are still confused.

I have both. I can do things faster on my desktop but i can take my laptop to sit in bed. I use them both but really use my laptop more.

I prefer laptops because you can carry them with you and pick up broadband most places (though there are a lot of places you have to pay for access), you can easily hook them up to printers, scanners, external hard drives very easily and therefore store a lot of the clutter of a pc away except when you need it, and you can watch movies on them on airplanes!!  The battery life kinda sucks because you have to plug it in if you work on it all day but most have decent battery life for carrying around (at a full charge my laptop can play 2 full movies so about 4 hours of playtime before it needs charging).  Also, they are still more expensive than pcs and its harder to add on and upgrade your laptop (for the most part you cant just slip in a new expansion card like with a pc who always seems to have more slots than you'll ever need for expansion cards).
I wouldnt go back now after going laptop - I'm too addicted.
