Another unexpected vet visit
« on: March 01, 2018, 07:57:43 pm »
Well have been to the vet six times in the last three weeks with our younger dog due to her having problems with her leg that was repaired for a torn ACL  in 2014 and the second one in 2015.  Tried acupuncture three times and now she is in water treadmill therapy but today our older dog came in limping and holding up his leg.  I knew just by looking at him he torn his ACL. Call the vet and took him immediately and sure enough that is what he did.   He too has already had one done this past October.  Found out today that once they tear one there is a 60% chance that they will tear the other one.  So surgery schedule and six weeks of no stairs again and has be on a leash at all times during the six week recovery process along with water treadmill therapy.  Another hit to the wallet and a big one.  I love them both and guess I would do anything for them.

what type of dog ?

One is Pitbull mixed and the other is border collie mix.  Also pet insurance doesn't cover ACL tears because they claim they are very common in dogs.  Something I never heard of it happened to us.  Vet said breeds do not matter just the wrong turn and it is done.

Yea I feel your wallet pain worse though was I took my little shih tzu to the vet paid hundreds just to be old they really couldn't do anything for her.  I love her very much and would pay anything I could come up with because she means so much to me and has been a real comfort to me since my husband passed away.

Well it's easier to drop kick a chihuahua  that attacks you then a pitbull,on the other hand I have known children that deserved their faces chewed for abusing animals.

Vets can be so expensive! I had to take my little 17 year old dog in last month, they had to do emergency surgery and it cost over $1700 by the time they were done.

We take ours once a year for shots and his check up to make sue he is healthy.  And the Vet is expensive but our furbaby is like part of the family so they need to  be looked after
