The male voice is usually taken more seriously and input more likely to actually be considered so women may need to talk more to actually be heard and listened to

Women are naturally more social and apt to have groups of friends who "chat".  Men are more introspective and relate with just one or a few others.  Usually with their spouce.

I don't think it's really fair to generalize. I've seen people who barely speak and those who won't shut up from both genders. That said, I think a lot of the men who claim women talk a lot, themselves talk more than they are aware.

I believe it...for the most part, women yak more.

In a family with so few men, there is no debate which gender will wear the other out :)

Really hard to say since my husband is quite a talker.  We sit at the breakfast table overlooking our backyard every night and he talks and talks and talks lol.  I do occasionally get a word in too.  On the other hand I know several women who talk way to much and jump from one subject to another with hardly a breath in between.

I know women who want shut up even when they are not making much sense, but then I have had to listen men who talk constantly about everything and not make much sense  either they just want the last word and of course they know it all and want to make sure a women knows it.

Fifteen years ago I had heard a special, on National public radio, about the number of words in the typical female conversation being a minimum of ten times the number of words that men employ in their average conversation. I knew this to be true between my wife and I but was biased due to our marital proximity. So I asked each of my children to spontaneously ask the same closed end question, to each parent, in the weeks to come and we would revisit this experiment at the end of thirty days. The kids chose to ask "Do you like peanut butter or jelly?". I stated "Jelly". My wife indicated both but it depended what it was being used for and on what day...and her answer went on until they stopped her about ten minutes later with well over five hundred words racked up.

Yes.

I also think men stop talking & become "lazy" as they rely more on a woman to do the talking for them when out in public.
