OMG I haven't heard about that... in these cases though I ask myself.... where are the parents? How would not a kid (grown enough to challenge another one) not know what Tide Pods are and that swallowing that can kill you?

I don't mean to sound harsh but it's a saying, " Stupid is as Stupid does", they think its funny, not when a child dies from ingesting those harmful packets.

I had not heard about the Tide Pod challenge til this post.  It is beyond my imagination why anyone would challenge another person to swallow one.

It seems to me that the challenger has to be of an age of REASON in order to even issue a challenge and therefore old enough to UNDERSTAND the dangers of it.

From what I understand they don't intend to swallow anything, it's about how long you can hold the foul taste in your mouth after you bite it. Reminds me of when I started smoking and how that eventually killed both my younger siblings. You would think that after gagging on the first puff we would have had enough sense to quit trying.

If a challenge is something like eating a hot pepper, okay, but what is the challenge even with this? Swallow this thing and see if you die?

I wonder where/how that challenge even started? I hope that kids are smart enough NOT to do this

Maybe they mistook the products for cookies or candy.

These aren't young kids in elementary school doing this. it's teens and young adults. You would think that they would know better but I'm beginning to have my doubts that each generation is getting dumber and no longer have any common sense. Sad.

This is why I am scared for kids today: stupidity like this.

Are you serious?  I hadn't heard this one before.  Remember when they came out with the show "jack *bleep*?"  The people who came up with that are likely now parents - scary!!! So it's no wonder kids are doing these ignorant, attention getting, self destructive acts.  Apples don't fall from the tree's and with the lack of parental supervision it's no wonder kids are hopping on the band wagon to participate in such ludicrous.  I'd like to challenge these kids  (and adults) to read a book, help someone in need, be a good citizen and start using the brains they've been given for purpose.

This is not the only thing that kids have done that is bad for them.  They have used other household chemicals to sniff up there nose and other things.
