Concept of God

Not to start any religious fights, but what is your concept of God or Creator of the Universe? This isn't my original thought, I heard it from someone and can't remember who but basically, to put my Creator into a male or female, a personification, a God or Goddess, a thought form, something that fits in my head, well that's not a Creator at all. My Creator is bigger than me and encompasses the universe so I can't just categorize him/her/it to fit in my head.

I believe God is our Father. Fathers are Men.  So God is a He.  Jesus is the son of god.  An image in the likeness of God... so Jesus was a boy...grew up to be a man.  God is a He.

I am more spiritual than religious.

I do believe in a higher power. However, I do not necessarily agree that it is a "he."

I do not think a higher power has to have a gender.

And sak4kat, just because Jesus was a boy who grew to be a man does not necessarily mean God is a "he."

For all we know, God is simply an idea. Anyone who claims otherwise is simply dedicated to their beliefs, but beliefs can be wrong.

I hope that there IS someone or something looking out for us. It would be horrible if this was it, and when we're gone, there is nothing but icy blackness in a dark, soundless, world.

God revealed Himself as Our Father, so he does have male characteristics.

I believe God is a male and that he watches over all of us each day.  I believe if we pray for help he helps us and like a regular parent has patience with us when he falter from the people we were meant to be.

I definitely believe in God as a Supreme Being whether male or female.  I only go by what the bible says when he is refereed to as "The Father".  Therefore, I am more inclined to think of him as a male figure.

I believe in the Bible how it says God is male though I think, just personally, personifying God as male or as female is an error. Male and female were created in God's image as it states in Genesis. And I know there is a lot of controversy over the two seperate stories in Genesis. I studied comparative religion and there are many cultures that have common stories in the Bible, such as the flood. One goes back to Roman mythology. There are also stories of the hero/savior who dies and is resurrected, such as Mithras, who eerily follows almost exactly like the story of Jesus. As I said, no arguements here, I just wanted to get an idea of people's opinions. There is a good show on Netflix called Myth and Monster's that raises some interesting questions. But, if anybody feels comfortable sharing, are any of you non-Christian?

I agree with you 100%, ginalopina. God is not an idea but rather the Father of all people. The question of whether he is a man or a woman is probably a human construct. He may be something of a higher level that we cannot fathom and he calls himself the Father so that our pea-brains could better understand who he is. I appreciate not knowing all of the answers, because it helps me see that he is bigger than anything that could possibly "fit in my head."

I have studied evolution and listened to atheists. When you think of how the brain works I think there has to be a creator it's so amazing.  I still have trouble believing in God.  One thing is where your born. If you are born in the US then you have Christian  religion . If your born in the middle east then you will  be a Muslim. So how does God  figure this out .

I think of "god" as the focal point in a very large mass of light and energy.  Light and energy.  Not human form; not animal form; not male nor female.  I see this as the source of what we refer to as our souls/spirit.  When we are born, a portion of this light and energy enters us and when we die, it leaves and goes back.  Please remember that the bible is written by humans.  As are other holy books.  Each is written in accordance with the writer's own belief system.  The appearance of the Principals in the bible stories follows that which the writer knows best.  Even though many of the stories in the bible are based on actual happenings, they have been written to align with the writer's own circumstances.  That is how we end up with a story about a male, white Jesus figure.   Keep an open mind, study other religions, take a class in comparative religions - you'll definitely learn a lot.

The bible answers all the questions.A God of love wouldnt desert HIS creation.He has given us HIS written word that has been around 1000s of yrs and translated into 1000s of languages and written by HIM....Man was taking dictation.It has shown it is divine by predicting the future.1 example is the fall of Jerusalem in 70 CE.

The bible tells us HE is a spirit.He told Moses man couldnt see him and live.That make a lot of sense when you consider HE created the sun,stars etc.

Wisdom,power,justice and Love are his 4 qualities.

false gods have names.Why is it important that we know HIS name.Because it identifies HIM as the TRUE God.There have been no other gods before HIM.His name is Jehovah and that name means HE causes to become.Jesus is his firstborn of creation thats why he is a begotten son.Everything else created Jesus was a master worker with his father.Let US make man.Notice US is plural.Jesus of course also came to earth as a man to represent his father and die a ransom death to balance the scales of justice that Adam caused by sinning and bringing death to the human race.

Jehovah also has a visible organization on earth that is in over 240 lands and a worldwide brotherhood that the main mission is to teach what Jesus commanded.Gods kingdom or governement that will soon eliminate the cause of sin and Satans world that has been allowed to exist.

I am reading "The Source" by James Michener, and it gives a very good overview of people's concept of God and gods throughout the ages. This book has given me a clearer understanding of the evolvement of religion, and all its many facets.
