went to the dentist today hoping I would just need a few pulled and some fillings

apparently my teeth were worst than I thought.

they said the best option was too pull them all and I would get dentures.

if you have dentures whats your opinion of them?

Hold onto your teeth as long as you can. I didn't. I hate dentures. I didn't have a single cavity, but my dentist told me the support bone was eroding and my teeth would loosen. He suggested dentures, too. I was stupid and listened. The bottoms never fit. The first  top didn't fit and they were forever hurting and loose. Had them realigned but it didn't help and I never could eat with them. Got a new set after   >:(  >:(  >:(

I accidentally threw the old top out (was wrapped in a tissue in my pocket) because they still hurt after 10 years. I went to a place that makes the dentures. New top fits great and no pain. Only had 2 sore spots and they fixed it the first time.  Bottom still don't work. Still can't eat with them. I only put the top in when I'm going out.  Food tastes different with them, too, when I do have to eat with them.

Never thought I"d have a lot of trouble. My mom had one set her entire life from age 16 to 79. They always fit and she ate everything with them. Thought I'd be the same. What a laugh!

I would get another opinion, I seriously would try to keep my teeth as long as I could.

Dentists have always told me to hold onto my teeth as long as I can.  I've had a 4-tooth partial plate since I was late teens.  At times, like right now, I'm tempted to get everything pulled and go to full plates but just can't make myself do it.

I don't have dentures, but my mother-in-law had them (had to get all of her teeth pulled). She was okay with them. They definitely helped her eat, but she did say that her gums got sore from them every once in a while. I agree with Nancy5, possibly you should get a second opinion.:peace:

Are implants an option for you?  I think they are better, especially if you are still fairly young.  My husband's teeth are really bad.  The last estimate he got to fix them was $14,000.  Of course, we don't have that kind of money so he is missing a lot of teeth.   A lot of my back teeth are broken so I probably need $5,000 to $10,000 worth of work, also.  AND, I lost a crown.  I have no idea how that happened because every time it came out, I could tell and put it back.  I have no idea how I could have lost that crown.

Keep you own teeth long as you can. My mom has dentures and she can't wear the bottom one at all. She said she can only eat soft foods now and misses eating nuts, carrots etc.

sadly most my teeth are pretty bad with decay there isn't 1 tooth in my mouth that doesn't need some kind of work and partials wouldn't work either because I don't have enough teeth to keep  them in
I have no back teeth at all.

and I have thought of implants but I don't think I would have the cash for that.

right now I am just going to start the process of getting the ones that are causing pain out

Asked your dentist if there is any other option before deciding to pull out your teeth.  Good luck on your decisions.

You really should get a second opinion, that is awfully drastic to have all your teeth pulled. There are a few things they can do now to help strengthen the bone I think. Try to keep even some of your real teeth if you can.
