I would probably get something from Hickory Farms.

My mother in law always looks for her gift card either from the grocery store or JC Penny's.  The kids also give her homemade cards with little coupons for her to use their services such as a ride to the store, shovel her snow etc.  Stuff we would anyway but she loves the thought.

Food or gift cards. Things they could actually use and will help them in their home.

Personally, knowing it's so cold here, I think any sort of warming/heating pad/device would be welcomed by anybody. Similarly, slippers and blankets and things are nice.

You could make a nice reservation at a restaurant that they both love to eat at, or a gift card to that place. You could take them out some place that they would like or to visit again!

My father is 72 and although he has the money to go out to eat, he loves getting gift cards to his favorite restaurants. When he uses them, he feels like he is getting a "free" meal lol I also make his favorite candy at the Holidays as he has a massive sweet tooth. And, I make food for him throughout the year. He likes some of my dishes better than his wife's lol

My grandmother is not quite that age but not too far away from it.  I just try to make sure what I get her is packed with sentimental value.  Something from the heart that makes them think of you and/or other family members.  That's how I do it anyway.

Gift cards for their favorite restaurant... or maybe tickets to a movie or a play?  Of course you could always just ask what they want too :)

My Grandparents don't need physical things anymore. The presents she loves the most are hand maid from the grandkids who are young enough. The adults will do chores around the house for her. Or we buy her stuff that she needs/won't buy for herself. Like I'm getting her expensive bird seed. A few years ago we all chipped in to buy her a new fridge.

It doesn't really matter what it is, as long as it is given in love with a big hug.

Gift cards to a favorite restaurant, gift card to their grocery store, a subscription to the local newspaper, spending a day with them doing something fun or a nice day trip someplace.  Don’t know where they live, but maybe someone to cut the grass or shovel snow, if in a senior high rise or apartment pay for a month or two rent.

This year all the kids and grandkids chipped in together and we got a new easily accessible bathroom in the grandparents home.  The higher toilet and the shower they can roll into without steps.  It was just completed and they love it.  We already take turns taking them out to dinner or lunch to spend time with the individual kids and grandkids.  We also have a dinner with everyone once a week.  At their ages late 80s we feel like we HAVE to make the time now.
