laryngitis-what is your best natural cure
« on: November 28, 2017, 09:30:51 pm »
I got laryngitis during the Thanksgiving holiday and would like for it to go away.  I have tried lemon and honey tea but still have the symptoms.  Suggestions????

Since the lemon and honey tea didn't work, and I don't really think there is an 'instant cure' but the key to a cure is keeping your throat moist.  Try these.  First breathe moist air. Use a humidifier to keep the air throughout your home or office moist. Inhale steam from a bowl of hot water or a hot shower.  Try resting your voice as much as possible. Avoid talking or singing too loudly or for too long. Also drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration but try to avoid alcohol and caffeine since these can cause dehydration faster than just not drinking and if you can't moisten your throat with lozenges, gargling with salt water or chewing a piece of gum.  Do avoided decongestants if possible. These medications can dry out your throat.  Also avoid whispering. This puts even more strain on your voice than normal speech does.  Like I said there is no instant cure but keep your throat as moist as possible and it will heal.

I hope you get better very soon. Laryngitis can be very frustrating, especially when you're trying to convey your thoughts to someone, or when you're trying to sing! I don't have any remedy for you, but you'll be in my thoughts as you heal. :peace:

My only cure was to keep my mouth shut. No talking. For me, that's the hardest thing to do. :)

I also used honey lemon drops to suck on and that did help a bit. Usually, laryngitis only lasts a couple days, but it makes hubby happy. :)

I would try Mentholatum ointment on the throat/chest area.  You can put a little at the edge of your nostrils where you can breathe the fumes.  Also, I would try diffusing one of the essential oil blends for respiratory issues. Even breathing plain steam could be soothing, but don't burn yourself!

Thanks for the suggestions.  I will try as many as possible, especially increasing moisture to the throat.  I never realized how important that was.

I would keep up with the lemon and honey. The humidifier is also a good choice. Just keep an eye on it and if it doesn't get better go see the doctor.

I hear people ask questions like that all of the time.  A natural cure for a specific issue.  I believe in overall health, overall diet.  Any quick fix wouldn't serve you well anyway.

Try to not talk! know that is hard but those muscles need to relax and keep doing what you are doing; when I've had that it just had to run it's course. Hope you are better soon.
