what do you say to someone who puts you down

for paying her own way to college but only because of the degree that she chooses to get?  I am glad to be earning enough income to pay for my college.

I do not associate with people that put me, or any of my loved ones, down for any reason. Constructive criticism is accepted as long as it is constructive. I am always up for improvement and am quite harsh on myself. Telling me this without providing solutions is counter productive. I don't go out of my way to be in the vicinity of negative people. You should be proud of earning your way through school. I took an additional year to graduate because I worked three jobs to make it happen but I do not have any student loans. My daughter has a full ride because she applied herself to the highest degree while in high school. We take care of her apartment, food and all vehicle costs. My son worked his tail off and we support his tuition, food and board. If he gets good grades he will get a car for his sophomore year and we will cover the expenses.

     I completely avoid them!

I usually try to avoid people that try to put me down.  I have trained myself to have a healthy opinion of myself. not prideful just honest about who I am.

I do not associate with people who insult.  I've always felt they hate themselves and are jealous of something about you or your family that they don't have in themselves or their own family.  Life is too short do deal with these kind of people and their negativity.  If I am stuck seeing someone of this nature on a daily basis I avoid contact as much as possible.

Usually I say nothing .. I know what I have accomplished and if they have a negative opinion then so be it.  I don't really care what they think anyway .. Can't remember the last time anyone but me paid my bills !!

Most of the time I don't say anything.  Depending on who & what the put down is- I have been quick to snap back with something snarky.  I try and keep my mouth shut.  Silence is oven more meaningful than saying anything at all.  In fact I think Silence is more effective that quick wit any day.
