Nope, don't even own a cell phone. If I ever were to own one, I probably wouldn't even make it the main phone then.

The big cons why I never would do away with a landline in favor of a cell phone is there is no guarantee of good reception at your home. You could have interference or weak signals. My parents have HORRIBLE reception at their home. Their provider came out on a few occasions, tried changing phones, etc, and just concluded they were in a weak area.

The other is power outages. If you lose power for a few days, your cell battery will die by then. I can't ever remember losing our landline phone for even a few minutes. Having access to 911 is critical. Another reason why I wouldn't do digital voice through a cable provider either until they can improve the technology in regards to power outages. Same situation as a cell phone, it will run on a back-up battery, but once that is drained you're pretty much SOL.

All these technologies are great and convenient, but they still have some room for improvement in some key areas.

My parents still have a landline just for the convenience factor. Either of them rarely use their cellphones. Both have there pros and cons.

I don't know about you guys but I just use my telepathy to contact the people I need  :icon_rr:

I decided to shut off my home phone and make my cell phone my main phone. Im wondering if anyone else has done that? Also, would really love to hear from other members what they feel the pros and cons are.

I use my cell phone 85% of the time and I barely talk to anyone on the house phone unless I can't contact them by cell phone. The cell phone is my primary phone.

I'm thinking about doing that, but AT&T's Internet is like twice the cost without a landline, since it's broadband DSL.

We got rid of our home phone years ago also, we never used it and had to have cell phones for or job so it was just smarter to only have the cell phone.

I have a cell phone for my business. That cell phone is only used for business purposes. My fiance has like 485$ stores on his cell phone and we still have a home phone. He prefers the house phone. He has a prepaid so the money just keeps adding up. He got like 3 months without having to make a payment because they couldnt add any more money onto the phone because the limit is 500.

I've always done that. I never thought of getting a home phone.

The Pros:
You can take your cell phone with you, you can't with a home phone (unless you have a really long cord).
You can text on your cell, home phone...nope.
You won't miss a call while you're not at home.
You cell is with you everywhere in case of an emergency.
Umm and for some it may be cheaper then a home phone.

Since I moved out of my parents I have only used my cell no land line.  It's nice bc it's cheaper than paying for both.  However, I have a few friends that have told me it's actually cheaper to include a land line in a lot of cable/internet plans.  I guess it depends on whatever the current promotions are.  The only con to only having a cell is that I now have to give my cell number out so much (not just for family and friends like when I first started using a cell).
