a special experience or memory can have an influence.

I always told the kids, if you can scream that name, than that one should be considered a choice lol  naming a pet is thrilling  :dog:

:dog:  My little shih tzu is named baby - when I first met her she was so tiny about the size of a gerbil lol and she curled up on my chest and went to sleep.  I had considered precious as a name but right away I knew it was supposed to be baby and so it is.

We didn't get to name our last dog we got. We picked up from an animal shelter. He is really gentle. We kept his name that he had

The dog that we just had to rehome because it was just not a good fit was named ISHKODE. its native American for fire.

He has a blaze something to do with fur and its the closet thing in the native language that I could come to blaze.

His full name is ISHKODE BLAZE BEARDEN but we never got the paper work to fill out on him.

We had a Chihuahua that ran around the house in circles (entry to kitchen, to dining room, to living room and back to entry, over and over and over), so our kids named him "Psycho Dog" and it stuck.

Our first dog, I didn't have any say on what to name her because I was 2 years old, but my last two dog were named Butch, and Smokey. I don't remember how Butch got his name, but Smokey received his name because he was was shaggy and black, and even after a bath, he always looked smokey and never shiny.

Have 2 dogs from shelters and one was a 6 weeks old puppy so we were able to name him Owen but the other was 9 months old when we adopted her and was named Luna so we just kept it.  Liked the name and did want to confuse her anymore than she was.

Our cat we had since we were married was named "Spike," since he had spiky hair when he was a kitten. He died from old age 7 years ago, and since then I had dreamed of a cat that I called "Tinker." But it didn't matter since we found out previously that I had an allergy to cats and couldn't get another one. But then about a year ago I decided to get another cat (short hair this time), and named him "Tinker," like in my dreams. :in-love:
