walking the dog
« on: November 03, 2017, 06:13:58 am »
there are several dog owners in my apartment building.
apartment living is not the ideal for a dog.
they like to run free.
some owners only walk the dog twice a day.

Dogs really do need a backyard to roam around and live free.

Not really sure ... my dog has the run of the house and yard! She'd rather be curled up next to my feet, and she follows me every where I go..... yep even in the bathroom , i can't shut the door or she scratches to get in.  She could be out in the yard all day, she isn't she's sitting right next to me as I type. I think its up to the dog in some cases ..  :) :) :)

That's why we have a cat.  They are self sufficient and don't need to be walked.

I thankfully have a backyard for my dog, but he doesn't like to go out if it's raining or the weather is too cold. I'm not much of a dog person, but my ex-husband left me with all 4 of "our" pets, so I've made the best of the situation and continued taking care of the dog.

I walk my dog 3-4 times a day altering the week, it does have fun in the back yard running around chasing birds and such when he see's them.

ideally dogs should have a place to run and play like a backyard or park. I also think it depends on the dog. many dogs are like people.when the wheather is in clement too hot or to cold dogs don't like to go outside either. :pumpkin: :rainbow: :peace:

Most dogs need a nice yard.

We have a huge fenced place for our golden retriever.  She curls up at my feet otherwise.  She lives in the house.

We have two Golden Retrievers and plenty of room everywhere. They rule our house. We have a dog door that leads into our back yard which is more than enough room for them. They will sit on the deck during the day just soaking up the sun. I am surprised if they bark more than once a year. I walk them for a mile at around four in the morning, my wife and I switch off working from home so the dogs generally get another mile at lunchtime, and they get another mile walk as soon as one of us gets home. If we have a stressful day/evening the dogs might get another half mile walk before we go to bed. On the weekends we like to take them for longer walks and try to take them swimming in the local lakes when the weather is nice.

It probably depends on the dog. Most dogs like to run around, but some are really lap dogs.

We don't really have a big yard. When the dogs go out they do their business and just lie down. Honestly, they love being in the house more than being outside. But then again it really depends on the dogs. If they're real young they probably need to go out more.

I would really like to have a dog, but one of the reasons I don't is because I live in an apartment and have no yard. I agree that a dog should be able to run freely when possible and not be cooped up in an apartment.
