Are you a retiree?
« on: October 09, 2017, 10:36:59 pm »
I’m not from the Baby Boomer generation. I still have a very long way to before reaching retirement age. I’m not from the Millennial generation either. I do not wish to retire early at 62 like most people do because I still have the energy to work.  If I’m lucky, I hope to retire at age 70.

I have a female co-worker who just retired a week ago after working for 16 years at our corporate branch. She worked on her last day on Friday, Sept 29th. I believe she is around 70 years of age. Now with all the extra time on hand, one can sleep and wake up at the time they wish, take on a new hobby, relax, travel, take an extra course for fun, volunteer etc.  I hear some retirees don’t even know what to do afterwards for they become bored after a while. I would go back to school because I am a lifelong learner. I love school.  :D

I love what I do.  So I'm going to keep doing it until my body just won't let me anymore.  It's hard work - retail.  But I'm in a specialty position and it's a passion of mine.  I can imagine life retired but with a 10 year old it left it seems so far away.  Looking at how fast my big kids grew up and moved on I know it'll happen in the blink of an eye.  I've heard of people retiring younger and younger and the rather.  Even a few folks who get a part time job just to fill in the hours.

I retired in October at 62 and have never looked back.  I'm gone from the house at least 3 days a week with fun things to do.

I'm not a retiree, but have medical problems that put me as a retiree.

I was forced to retire at 62. I lost my job due to outsourcing and tried finding another one but at 62, it's too hard to find another job, especially in my "condition" and occupation. I am now going to be 70 and still hope and still try to job hunt because I not only need the money (my measly SS all goes for bills), but I'm absolutely bored being home all day. I am unable to drive due to my "condition."  i can get in a car, but not out on the driver's side. I tried for 3 years to no avail.

I worked at home from 1993 and find it frustrating that I haven't been able to find another real on-line job.  :'(

My Husband was a truck driver and a man in a car decided that he wanted to commit suicide on the interstate. The man was parked in the emergency lane and waited on the first tractor trailer to come along. It just so happened to be my husband. The man pulled out in front of him and they went down a 80 foot embankement. The man walked away with scratches and my husband who was in his thirties was left disabled for the rest of his life. He might as well be retired too. :(

I took an early retirement at 62 and have never been happier.  I thought I would be bored but I'm not.  Truthfully there are days I don't know where the day went.  I'm lucky in the sense I get social security and a pension check, so financially I'm ok.

I am not a retiree and considering the "modern" lifestyle I probably won't ever be able to retire or have a pension... but, this is why at some point in life you try to create your own business... or at least try...  :glasses-nerdy:

and as a hobby I love taking surveys to help paying some things off....

I am a retiree and I love it.  I wound up having to retire early and at the time thought I would be miserable.  But I worked for 45 years with only one small break when I had my child.   I love not having to have a schedule, doing what I want when I want.  Don't get to travel as much as I had hoped but I believe that will be possible in the next few years.

Yes I am,  and I was bored   within 6 months. I did not want to retire but my back gave out on me.  Now that we have moved back home I volunteer at a  charity where we give out allotments of food and clothing free.  People just have to sign up and prove they need it. But ii really like doing it. I have gotten to know a lot of people who come in and it gives me a purpose in like. Yes I get tired and yes my back  hurts but I am so grateful that  I am still able to work it 4hours  a couple of times a week.

Yes...and no. I qualify for retirement benefits...but life is so expensive
that I keep working for a living and a better quality of life.
