some parents prefer to live without family nearby.
they are content with the occasional visits.
some parents choose to move away from their children.
after some years, they get lonely wishing for the visits from the children.

I don't have my mom with us anymore, but my dad is less than an hour away, so its a good balance.

Pros and cons.  I would prefer to have my own life and my adult children have their own life, as well.  A little bit of quality time goes a long way and if I'm aware of problems in their life - I tend to be a fixer.  The truth is that it's best if they find solutions to their problems and challenges.
Have a great day!

I have mixed emotions about living away from my family.

I love not having them around for the most part but then there are some days where I wish I had some family around to help watch the children once in awhile.

I live near my mother and grandmother.  I definitely don't want that to change as long as my grandmother is still with us.  I love my mother, but I wouldn't be opposed to moving at some point.

I live with my parents but the rest of my family, I really don't care at all about. Family is not for everyone and it never has worked for me. >:(

We bought a house together with our youngest son and his kids, so we have a three generation home and it works fine for us.

:) My Mom lived with us for 2 months. She said, "I love you son but I need some space." She got her an apartment a couple of blocks away. Worked great. (She has now passed on.) :)

It is all very true. Some parents still love very much their kids but
because of busy careers decide to distance themselves from their kids.

I love having family near by! My parents just moved far away and I hate it!

My mom has lived with me for 12 years and it has worked out for us.  Her health is failing and it's easier to have her at my house instead of running to an apartment.  Family comes to visit and some times my sister will come in town and give me a break.
