I would ask what he meant by that question first. However my initial reaction would be "are you saying I'm fat?" That's just a weird thing to do. And if he means what I think he means it's just rude.

Not many places I know of even offer diet Sprite as a drink option. In fact, I think the only restaurant where I have ever seen it was at an old Country Buffet that was last in our mall about ten years ago.  That was always a funny sight.  People eating ten plates of food and drinking diet Sprite for their beverage!

He probably said that because most females are worried about their weight AND too you guys were ordering food, and he was probably thinking about all the calories you two would be eating. Unless he mentions weight again, or you guys were gonna workout together and watch your weight, I would leave him.

there would be no second date. there is no way he is going to control what I drink or eat.

not sure its a weight thing as he had a diet himself. unless hes overweight but in all honesty the diet pop is just as bad for weight loss.

I would have probably got offended and thought he was stupid. He would not have gotten a second date because that would have left a bad impression on me.

I would think he is an idiot.  I wouldn't think it was a weight thing... you said he order a diet coke.  I doubt he was calling himself fat.  If it's a health thing, diet is worse for you and regardless, they are both terrible for you.  Either way...I see an idiot.

The man is diabetic.  And you are correct, the diet drinks are way worse for you because of the artificial sweeteners.  But if the woman is not a diabetic why would she need to order a diet drink unless she just wants to drink diet to cut out calories.  Either way it is her choice.

I think he may have been kidding but I agree it was abrasive as you put it.  Or hurtful.  I would think if you went out on a first date and they guy said anything about what the girl ordered it would be kind of bad.

Good thing I am not a female but I think I would just say "thank you so much for bringing me here to this place and I think you deserved to know the truth. The truth is, is this your first time on a date? Never ask a girl something like that". After you help him out maybe consider that his first and only date with you. Unless u want to give him a second chance. LOL

He ordered first.   Sometimes people joke in weird ways.  And sometimes like a person I know they say mean things and then pass it off as a joke. But they really mean what they are saying.
