The Monument Issue
« on: August 21, 2017, 03:41:56 pm »
I find it horrible that these vandals want to destroy our history by vandalizing monuments. i don't care if they're on the side of the Conferacy or the Union. I'm hearing calls to destroy Thomas Jefferson and Washington statues, plus now vandals tried to destroy Christopher Columbus' monument.

Where will it end? They want Lee's name off everything, from schools to streets. Do we also destroy Washington D.C. because of the city being named for George Washington?  Do we dig up the Confederate soldiers buried in Confederate cemeteries and destroy those cemeteries?

The men who fought in the Civil War on the Confederate side were as brave as those on the Union side. In fact, if it wasn't for a mistake or two, the Confederates would have won the war!

They even went after the deceased mayor of Philadelphia in PA, writing Black Power on his statue because he was behind the police 100% and brought some order and lowered the crime rate.

These protests against conservatives (not the Nazis or KKK that crashed the conservative rally) are nothing more than to stop free speech. I think Trump was right when he said that Charlottesville was the fault of both sides (*bleep*, KKK, BLM, Antifa, and the rest)...and he was also correct when he said there were some good people on both sides (conservatives and those thinking they're  protesting against only the *bleep*'s and KKK. Their protest was crashed by the radicals.

Anyone else feel like i do?

President Trump was right. Both sides were the cause of the violence.

Amen and amen.

All this distraction takes away from the real issues, and that's probably the plan.  :(

As I've said before, I personally don't understand the Romanticism the South has for the Confederacy. They were on the wrong side of history and (thankfully) lost the Civil War. Having said that, Thugs & Vandals have NO right to destroy historic government property, and should be prosecuted for the damage caused.

I think the romanticism comes from the idea that their armies fought hard and were very brave to stand up for something they believed in and they were proud of that. I think the south was always a romantic place. I don't know, but that's what I think.  I also think that it's the thugs from the hate groups that are destroying those statues. They have no consideration for anyone except themselves and their ideas. Taxpayers paid for those statues but they don't care.

The mayor & governor were wrong to not allow the police to step in and stop the violence in Charlottesville. I think these politicians are making everything political and that's not the way it's supposed to be...the police are supposed to be neutral and just follow the laws of this country. Who knows how far this will go. Will the states destroy all statues? What will they decide to go after next?

These are scary times and they do need to stop distracting from the real issues.
