Have you ever taken a train trip out of state? If so, what did you like or dislike
About it?

I have never done it, but Am-trac goes by my house a few times a day and the people always wave, must get sore arms on long trips!   8) 8) 8)

No, but if I do I would get a private sleeper room like my Mom does when she takes Amtrack; that it has it's own private bathroom and during the day if you just want to sit in there; it's a little like just being in a room in your house; and at night the seat becomes a bed? which  I think is better then trying to sleep in a chair  all night. She has always enjoyed, so I think I may try for a long distance trip.

I liked meeting people.
I had help getting to the dining car.
Going between the train cars was a bit scary.
I liked watching the scenery along the way.
I was going from Chicago to upstate NY for a new job.
I would take a train trip for "no reason" again except for the fact that now I have a walker.
It might not be that much different since the people are helpful in any case.
Train service is limited to big cities.
Similarly, airlines only offer nonstop flights only from "hub" cities. ....larger cities.

Amtrak is one of the most enjoyable ways to travel long distance - if you can afford the extra time that it takes to get there. We have traveled by train several times over the past 10-15 years. A sleeper car is more expensive, but definitely worth it on longer trips. We have traveled to Florida a few times by train - once we took the Auto train which runs from Washington DC to Orlando. You can take your car - they load it up onto a train car - then transport you and the car to sunny Orlando where you pick your car back up.  It saves you the I-95 drive down the coast!

In addition to not having to do the driving, one of the best parts about train travel, in my opinion, is what you can see. Highway driving is okay, but you don't "see" anything other than the road and whatever is next to it.  On the train you SEE the country you are traveling through. You see the cities and towns that you pass through. You see the backyards (some of which are junkyards) behind houses. You see the old tires and junk refrigerators that people toss down the hillside behind the house toward the RR tracks. You see the ghettos, you see the farmland, you see REAL America!

If you ever get the opportunity to take a trip by train and the timing and cost fit your budget and itinerary, DO IT!!!

I haven't taken a train trip out of state but I did ride Amtrak from my sisters' back to my home.  Was about 250 miles I believe.  I enjoyed it but it was my first time and I didn't know the procedure so ended up not getting a good seat.  I'll do it again one day and hopefully our youngest granddaughter can go with me as she's never ridden a train either.

I never have but I would like to. I imagine the scenery is quite nice. Nice way to travel without having to fly or drive.

I've traveled on train.
I've traveled all over Europe on their EuroRail train system....   It was an adventure to be sure, sleeping on seats.

I would definitely choose a sleeper compartment... I haven't traveled in one, but when you are young it is easy to sleep sitting up in a seat, when you get older it would be like suffering.

I have never been on a train except in a amusement park (Dollywood) or a Christmas train for a special event thing. But my kitchen is train themed. LOL

My family was just discussing this for next year vacation.  We would love to experience this but never had.  We all wonder how it would feel to sleep on a moving train.  I take the commuter train may times to downtown Chicago but that is completely different I assume
