well, tomorrow, my daughter turns 15 and of course she will start and ed the day disappointed, because (and not surprisingly so) she has set her birthday expectations unrealistically and we are unable to fulfill them.

ugh, to be a teenager!!  worse than that, to be a parent of a teenage girl.

well, let the drama begin.... cant wait until school starts!!!!!

I went through the same with my kids. the best thing is, now I can make up for it. My kids need something, I work my hardest to make it happen

i have a 15 yr old granddaughter who has her 16th birthday coming up in a few weeks..i have asked her what she wanted..same thing she always tells us..whatever you want to get is fine with me..i will like everything..but she wants some things for her room,sketch tablets,and asked me to get her a big box of cocoa,just for her..lol..neither have never been picky and always excited about everything they get..and they always ask me to knit or make them some beaded items....Happy birthday to your daughter

My kids need something, I work my hardest to make it happen

Words are not accidents.  You chose to say you work your hardest when your kids need something and not when they want something. I am not saying that parents shouldn't go all out to try to do/get nice things for their kids - or should only go so far as to give them food, clothing, shelter, and nothing else... but some teens have a very warped sense of entitlement these days. When our oldest daughter was in high school (she is 26 now) a friend of hers was complaining because the car her parents bought for her when she turned 16 years old was only a $10,000 car.


I am happy to report that my daughter reamed her up on side and down the other for being so selfish, materialistic, and ungrateful.

  The BEST gift you could get her would be to teach her gratitude, to make her realize it's best to be thankful for what she has.  There are many in the world with so much less.  If she doesn't learn that now, this won't be her only birthday starting off with disappointment---it could be how she starts most days for the rest of her life......

That seems weird to me.... Im fifteen and the past couple of birthdays, my family hasn't done much. we just go get a nice meal at a restaurant and thats it. Last time i didn't even get any presents lmao. Im sure shell get over it if you dont do anything too special. Besides, were almost adults now.

One of my buddies refers to the teenage years as the tunnel. That loving sweet creature that used to sit on your lap disappears for a number of years. The good news is that they usually reappear when they get to the college years.
