There is very little reality to them.  They are for the sake of entertainment.  What little reality is present is enhanced by the show's personnel. The participants are all at least somewhat "coached".  Many or most shows follow a story outline and/or are at least somewhat scripted for the sake of telling a story.   Real life is not that interesting or filled with so much fast moving drama and twists and turns.  There are fewer new reality shows this fall season.   I think that they are on a downward trend.

I think it's like a train wreck, it's so horrible to watch but you can't seem to stop watching.   :-[

Some are pretty good. There's one on Discovery called "The Colony" which is supposed to be an experiment in a post-apocalyptic world. As for shows like "I love New York", no thanks. I like to watch shows with a little more depth.

They're totally getting out of control. Most of them aren't even real. They just use actors and call it a reality show. And people just love to watch for some reason.

As a whole I can't stand them.  I wish they would go away.  There is no such thing as reality TV anyway it's all scripted.

I'm a fan of some of them, but I agree that they've been taken way overboard.
