July 4 Fireworks

What is your opinion of fireworks in neighborhoods?  Frankly, after about 4 nights of them exploding for an hour right outside my house, I am for regulating them more closely.  Combat veterans, elderly, babies, animals, people who work varied hours all have problems with people doing this. I am not in any of those categories, but I am plain fed up and would like the peace and quiet of listening to my TV, sleeping, or whatever without this annoyance.  Go to the city fireworks or take them out of neighborhoods.  Yeah, bah and humbug on this particular issue!

Every year we go through the same thing they start shooting off  fireworks at least 3-4 days before, So everything  we hear them and then some idiot  decides to shoot off his gun (booze involved) which is a big no, no around here.  tonight won't be any difference, they will be one or two yahoo's get  picked up for shooting off a gun in town. Right now though it is clouding up pretty good and we may have a good rain before hand, or I hope so. Because  once in a while the postpone shooting off the fireworks for a couple of hours during a storm and then it is midnight or later that we can get any sleep.

Well, I for one, don't think people should do fireworks near people's homes or by their cars, because sometimes people be shooting off those big fireworks that could damage people's vehicles or their property. It is best if people just go see the city fireworks instead of doing it themselves, because some people can get very careless with fireworks. I hear fireworks near where I live and they be so loud that it keeps me up at night and this be very annoying.

I find the fireworks in my neighborhood annoying because people take it too far. I wish people would leave and go to the city to see it.

we live in a small town but we always go watch the fireworks.  They aren't anything special and only last about 20 minutes.  But its the thought and always a tradition with us.  Plus we like to sit and watch the traffic and people go by

The older I've gotten, the less I like fireworks. It's so loud and obnoxious.

I've become a fireworks snob too.  When we lived out in the country we would put on fireworks shows in our backyard.  Now we live in a typical American neighborhood and space for fireworks is an issue.  I took my youngest to see the cities fireworks show.  Before the show skydivers fell and landed on the school football field, veterans were announced ... current enlisted individuals were announced...The star spangled banner was sung and the show began.  The whole thing went from 9:00 - 10:30.  An hour too long for me.  The booming and the strobes are more and more obnoxious the older I get...When my youngest decides she doesn't wanna go anymore I'll be okay with that.

Agree for the most part - so many in neighboring areas, just go there, must safer

in my neighborhood and surrounding cities, fireworks from individual tenants were going off until 1:00 am in the morning and 2:30 am. someone told me that her dog was upset; animals don't like loud noises. she said that the police brush off the complaints. it was worse that new year's eve.
patriotism is one thing.
obnoxious behavior is another.

I used to like fireworks a lot; even setting them off to hear the bang. 

I still like seeing them now, but I don't like the noise. 

I know it's coming every year and we'll have some sleepless hours. Just hope no one gets hurt. 

Going somewhere to see them is a good option unless you don't like traffic jams going home. So I normally just think about going and then I don't. Haven't for years. Kind of miss it, but not that much.

Every year people still break the the law and light up fireworks. The law makers might as will legalize fireworks since people are going to shoot them off anyway.

I think they should only be allowed for a couple of hours starting at darkness on the 4th.

We live in a neighborhood where all of the houses are maybe about 10 feet apart and there are very few driveways, so the streets are usually pretty packed with parked cars.  The fireworks are still a'plenty and we usually find all sorts of bottle rocket debris all around the yards.  Sometimes, due to lack of open space, people set up/off right in the middle of the car lined street.


Needless to say, I am one of the group who wishes the locals would tone it down a bit.  But its a cultural thing I think. People just have a desire to 'blow things up' when it is [generally] socially acceptable. The fact that Cedar Point puts on one hell of a show every year on the 4th - which many locals and many more tourists go to see every year does not diminish the smaller neighborhood spectacles that last well past 2 o'clock in the morning.
