I get 10 to 15 telemarketer calls a day and if It's a number I don't answer the call. The problem with  telemarketers is that they are stupid.  Your phone number being put in a rotating dialer that calls back several times a day.  It's stupid of them that they don't realize to stop because I am not going to answer such calls.  Also having a number blocker stops the calls at one ring.

IF I don't recognize the ID number, I never answer the phone even if it's on my smartphone.  I get them everyday.  I am really fed up with having to delete them on a daily basis.

All unknown numbers can go to voicemail. If they really want ME, then they can leave a message.

If I see the same number calling repeatedly, I will answer and say, "Take me off your list," and they do.  :icon_rr:

:fish:

Why would you answer with "take my number off your list"?  If it is the same number calling repeatedly there could be a reason.  I would not get smart before I found out who it was.  And I know people who have had jobs as a telemarketer and most of them say if you are a smart butt to them they do not remove your number.  I do not like these types of calls but they are people too.  I try to remember that.  You usually are getting a robo call any way.  It is not a live person. Coincidentally there is a new company coming to a near by town and it is a magazine selling deal where you call people on the phone and sell magazine scripts.  I am curious as to how many people will apply (because of the high wages promised) and are also the same ones who curse people who call them? lol

I called a number once that I did not know the person but needed to get a hold of them because of an issue with their mother.  They answered the phone and smarted off and hung up.  Then later cried and said why didn't anybody call me.  Uh I did call you.  You smarted off and hung up.  Remember????  The look on her face was priceless.

The telemarketers are not stupid.  THEY are not just sitting there calling your number over and over.  90% of the calls are robo calls.  The computer is calling you.  And it does not know your number has been called earlier.  And the reason they call repeatedly is because they figure eventually they will catch you available.  The computer does not know you are ignoring the call.  I have a ton of numbers blocked.

I hate these calls as much as anybody.  And again I wonder if anybody even read my original post because most of you have totally missed the question.  I did not ask if you answer the call if you don't know the number.  I asked if you sit there and watch the caller ID and listen to the phone ring and then when it stops immediately call the number back to see who answers.  To me that is foolish.  If you are going to do that then just answer it and see who it is.  smh.

And even if it is not a robo call they are calling a number on a list or going down the phone book calling every number.  I know someone who done this type of job once.  She worked with a temp agency and this was one of the jobs they sent her on.  She HAD TO HAVE A JOB so she took the assignment.  What was funny was she was calling people in her area and actually called someone she had previously went to church with.  And the person telling her off (the receiver of the call had no idea who had called them) was anything but Christian. lol.

Idk.  I just don't answer the phone if I do not know the number.  Even if it is local.   I just don't get why people get so upset they are on the verge of a heart attack of someone calling their phone number.

I have been getting so many random phone calls lately, it is so frustrating! I sometimes will Google them too to see where they are coming from, but I never answer them. Anyone who knows me knows that if it's important, they can leave a message and I will get back to them right away. Funny how all of these random numbers calling me lately do not leave a message. If that doesn't scream SPAM, I don't know what does!

It is not a scam.  I don't think people even know what the word means.  They are telemarketers.  Not scamming.  Trying to sell you something.  There is a new company coming to a town near me and it is a telemarketing company and they are going to have people call people to try to sell them a magazine script.  It is to sell them something not scam them.

I got a call a couple days ago that said "UNITED STATES" as to where the call came from and it started with
+1 and then had about 14 numbers after it.  I tried to google it but could not get it to recognize it was a phone number.  I figure it was from another country.  I get a lot of those.  And apparently other countries can call and try to sell or scam or whatever and there is nothing our country can do to stop it.  Well that was under osamer.  Maybe Trump will put a stop to that.

Yeah, I get these calls daily.  And recently I've been getting them from local numbers like you.  They can make the number say what ever they want to.

They can.  I swear it is like they get in to your contacts.  They are making the calls look like they are coming from your own number or people you know.  I was with a friend and he got a call.  He looked at his phone and said "that is my number how can I be calling myself"  I told him not to answer it and what was going on.  Unless we the people find a way to fight back nothing will change.
