What ya think?
« on: April 05, 2017, 02:24:10 pm »
My son and daughter in law won't let their 15mn old son have any sugar. When they were over a few weeks ago he grabbed a chocolate mint and my son acted like it was poison. He said get that from him which i did. Then last week he gave him a little ice cream and had to show my daughter in law the small amount geeez.Well Easter is coming and i got him a couple toys no candy. They give him fruit but what harm can one chocolate bunny rabbit do? I will buy a m@m's egg and let them decide if he'll get any. Me well sees candy is my favorite gonna get some for myself .

Even parents go through phases. They're the boss of their own kid, so you're kind of stuck with it for however long it lasts.

I went through sugar withdrawal with my family many, many moons ago, but I got over it.  :silly:

Moderation is the key in every aspect of eating sensibly.

I did not let my boys have  much in the way of sweets ,  But there were times  i felt they deserved a  couple  bites of something sweet, so they grew up not eating a lot of  sweets and i feel like  that they  never craved  it, because they knew that they could have a little bit sometimes so they were not  overweight  like their cousins.

I agree with lingerlizzie in that they are the boss of their child.   It may be a phase but you have to respect their wishes as to how they are going to raise their child.   It maybe that someday they will ease up  but let's face it, if you give a child one piece of candy they are going to want it more and more.   The child is young and I can understand at this point they are being cautious, careful parents.   Wondering, is this their only child?

I also agree, everything in moderation but that can be difficult with small children, one little piece of candy they will want more.

I think that is stupid.  I use to go to church with a physco who would not allow her son to have a friggin tic tac.  Said it will make him hyper.  An elderly man at church who always had candy gave all the kids a mini hershey's candy bar.  They are less than one bite of candy.  The two boys took them and the one put his in his mouth and his brother immediately goes and tells on him.  His momma runs in there and grabs him and drags him to the trash can with her hand squeezing his neck and shoving his face in the trash can and screaming spit it out.  I am sure they ate candy at school.

michele, that is just foolish.  We aren't talking about crack cocaine here.  It is a piece of candy.  You cannot keep the kid from ever eating candy unless you chain them to your body and never go to sleep.  I did not get candy often.  Mostly because we could not afford it. lol.  But when I did get a piece of candy I didn't go in to fits trying to kill people to get another piece.

Candy is not going to hurt them and neither is something with sugar in it.  I am curious to the kid's parents eat sugar?

The poor thing, it seems people these days are going from one extreme of letting kids have too much to the other extreme of not letting them have anything.  I don't see the harm in one or two pieces now and then as long as you don't go overboard and they know that it's a treat, not a regular thing.

Everything in moderation. I allowed my children to have the occasional sweets while growing up. Neither of them drank much soda, mostly milk, juice, kool-aid and water. In fact, we'd go to McDonalds for lunch and they would order milk with their happy meals lol I was a proud momma!  ;)

Eventually that child will be exposed to sugar.  Is this their first child?

I think most parents are trying to do their best.  Eventually, we all make personal choices about what we consume.  If they are too controlling; eventually he will retaliate.

There's balance in everything; including the freedom and lack of freedom we give our kids.
Have a great day!

I can see where they are coming from, my nephew is only 18 months but my brother/ sister in law still gives him a little bit of sugar at least once or twice a day. I think it's important for them not to have too much sugar throughout the day especially at such a young age
