Haley's Cleaning Hints - Cleaning Supplies

Yesterday I had an opportunity to earn some money cleaning a friends' house.  I own a book called Haley's Cleaning Hints so I wanted to find out which cleaning supplies work best for you.

I know some people use vinegar to clean off hard water deposits.  Some people use baking soda when they clean their tub or kitchen sink; including, pouring baking soda down the garbage disposal.  Some people put citrus peelings (lemon or orange) in their garbage disposal to make it smell fresh.

Personally, I've used men's shaving cream to spot clean my carpet. 

I use Ajax and a spray cleaner in my bathroom.  I also use soft scrub.  A pumice stone works great if you need to take hard water deposits off the inside of your toilet bowl.

Which products do you use when you clean?

Any tips, hints or suggestions?

Bleach and vinegar to clean the floors

News paper .... is a must for cleaning anything glass.  The black and white printed you just wad in a ball and use to clean your windows with what ever spray you like.  I never believed this till I was old schooled by a cleaning lady. Rocked my world !!!! When I quit smoking and had a total house cleaning I was 100% amazed that the little ball of paper was going to make them windows clean with out streaks!       Really if you have not tried this .. you really need to!

For cleaning the bathroom I like to use Kaboom on the sink and bathtub.  It sprays on blue and when it turns white you wipe it off and it is clean.  For the commode I like to use a spray bottle and spray Clorox on the outside of the toilet and use any kind of bowl cleaner inside the toilet and use the scrub brush.

Never heard of a pumice stone, what is that?

I have a steam shark for the floors and a hand shark for counter-tops and tile surfaces, Nothing is better to kills germs like boiling-hot water. You know now-a-days bleach just bleaches the germs white. I use some sort of disinfectant for the toilet, how do you do the toilet bowel with hot water, well you got to drain or turn off the water than pour boiling hot water in the tank and bowel, but boiling hot water will kill germs best.

I mix vinegar and blue dawn in spray bottle to clean the tub every things just slid of then you rinse it.

Someone already suggested my favorite cleaning tip.  Newspaper and windex (Insert store label) or vinegar works just as well.  Although, vinegar is stinky it works for so many things.  Hard wood floors.  Neutralizing odors in a washing machine... also serves as a fabric softener. Years ago I ditched all the expensive multipurpose cleaners and switched to fabuloso...it was so much cheaper and really was fabulous.  However now that I'm employed by kroger most of my cleaning solutions are kroger brand as I can save extra on them.

Holy boil a lot !! I never heard bleach just turns germs white ?? I could never carry boiling water to my bathroom up stairs, wow i'd be worried about burning myself and or my dog.  I guess I'll just have germs with albinism.

Find in health & beauty, used to treat calloused skin. Many people use on their feet.

I like vinegar and Dawn dish liquid, I can't use bleach because I have COPD

I got rid of most chemically cleaners a few years ago after my yellow lab had a seizure when I had been cleaning with "Mr Clean".  I bought a Shark steam mop for the floors & a Shark handheld for the rest (cleans with steam, no chemicals).  Makes cleaning quick & easy. 

I use a mixture of Dawn & vinegar to clean tub/shower, it works effortlessly, no scrubbing!  Spray on, let it sit awhile & then rinse.

I use vinegar to spot clean or quick clean, and also in the laundry rinse cycle (instead of fabric softener.)  I've also used ammonia instead of fabric softener & that really freshens laundry as well.

Hydrogen Peroxide is good for whitening whites (laundry) & I have it in a spray bottle also for spraying as a multi-purpose cleaner.

I prefer using baking soda over using Ajax. 

So my cleaning cabinet contains: a big bottle of Dawn, a big jug of vinegar, box of baking soda, and a bottle of peroxide which costs around $7.  (Compare that to the high cost of chemically cleaning products, which cost so much more even with coupons.  Plus chemicals are harmful to one's health.)
