Why Didn't I Invest in Snapchat 5 Years Ago?
« on: March 03, 2017, 06:13:09 am »
Did you see where Snapchat went public and made billionaires out of the owners/founder?  Of course, who knows how it will play out long term.  However, a church made a $15,000 investment somewhere around 7-8 years ago on the recommendation of a savvy, successful participant and they have made over a million!!!

You could say that about any investment. There are many, many opportunities to become rich in the stock market, but just as many to go totally broke. If you like a stock invest in it, but invest only what you are prepared to lose. That's my theory.

I also believe you should not look backward, but only forward to what you can do now. The former is pointless and makes you feel bad. The latter can be fruitful, but at least it's possible going forward. :rainbow:

I told every person I knew to buy Google stock with it came out and they all laughed at me. I was always being made fun of because of my computers. People told me I was nuts and to get a life, those where the days cell phones were in big sacks and you were a rich snob if you had one!!  Every one else was tied to the wall with a long cord, and having a wire less phone was well almost as special as a answering machine...... If i'd have followed my own advice I'd want for nothing ! But over the years I've come to understand that wanting is what's fun in life!

It does seem to be the big thing these days; investing is a risk you have to also be prepared to lose. I am not a risk taker so do not think that would work for me, but i know people who have done very well doing so.

Stocks are always 50/50/ 50 percent chance of succeeding and 50 of failing. That money sound like a lot though. Would have been so painful to have missed out on that amount of money.

When they first came in to existence I am not sure it was open for anyone and everyone to purchase stock in them.
The company I work for is worth billions.  But their stock is closed and only the family who owns the company has any stock.

Since it wasn't public 7-8 years ago, you would have had to have known one of the owners to invest.

There are a lot of things I wish I had invested in, but it's no use thinking about it now. Especially companies that make practical everyday things, like Kleenex, which I use a lot of!
