A simple "spinach salad" with some roasted chicken, fruit of your choice (like berries, or apples or orange segments), then add some slivered nuts and oh, of course make your own salad dressing.  I like to make my dressing with some rice vinegar, olive oil (just a little), honey and/or some sort of fruit preserve depending on which fruit I have in my salad, shake it up in a jar and pour it over your salad.   I think it's the best - may be you can give it a try.

For me, the dressing makes or breaks the salad.  I followed a raw vegan diet for a few weeks and my favorite dressing was very simple to make.

1 Tbsp. Bragg's Liquid Aminos
1 Tbsp. Organic Extra Virgin olive oil
1 Tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar

That combination had a tendency to "wake up" my taste buds.  It's was great.
Have a great day!

Toasted broken up ramen noodles add a nice crunch, especially in a slaw salad!

I love salads but i really love asian salads like mango salad, green papaya salad, mangoes are actually good in a green salad, kale is good but if you rub the kale in between your hands several times its softens the flavour, nuts are good in salad and different kinds of cheeses like feta, I get a lot of ideas just off the internet and you tube.

There's some good ideas in this thread. I am always looking for ways to have salad differently. Thanks for the ideas folks.

I really really like marinated artichoke hearts and pitted black olives in my salads. I feel these two items really dress up a salad and make it special.

We like making a quick bean salad using canned beans, peppers, red or white onion, a bit of olive oil and seasoning.

My all time summer favorite is putting watermelon into my salad! OMG! I'm sorry if I am repeating someone else's answer but it is my favorite! :)

I don't think anyone mentioned pasta salad. If you combine cooked and cooled thin pasta noodles with your favorite grated cheese and some good Italian dressing, you've got a great salad.

It's an option to a green salad for a change of pace. And it is yummy.  :D
