Heating pad
« on: December 26, 2016, 08:53:28 am »
Do you use heating pads for your pain. I am having Fibromyalgia pain, so I have been using a pad now for 2 days, I must have lifted something that caused me to irritate my fibro pain.

I have heard that docs are now leaning more towards ice. The way i understood it basically is that heat is inflammatory, makes blood go to the area, exacerbates pain, etc. I dont know though, i always lean towards heat when i am sore, maybe i have been doing it wrong all these years.
maybe you should try alternating ice and heat.

I have no idea how true this is, but I have read to use ice for pain in your bones/bone injuries, and to use heat for muscle pain. I've always had more success with heat when my muscles have ached. I hope your fibro pain goes away!  :)

When you first have an injury, (first 24-48 hours) you should use ice. After 48 hours, heat will help dissipate any swelling.
Use the I.C.E. method: Ice , compression and elevation.

have one i use for my feet or my hips.  they seem to be my pain area's.  I have a heating pad that is long instead of a square one so it wraps around me instead of having it lay right on me

My best relief comes from heat and vibration combined, besides it feels great.

I've never used a heating pad.  For fibro-pain, I use a heated throw quite a bit.  It has "low", "medium" and "high" settings and usually it's on "high".

I use once a while, it is a great way to relax my muscle.

Funny, I plan to buy a new heating pad in a couple days. I am wearing this one out.

I have a pinched sciatic nerve, and using the heating pad loosens it up enough to exercise and stretch the leg.  It relaxes the related pain in the small of my back, part of sciatica.

I use sometimes, but I have also heard you should use ice for pain, I guess whatever works is what I will use.
