Interesting observation...living in Hawaii ...
« on: September 09, 2009, 05:04:04 pm »
This is just an interesting observation, and it may not actually be the case but it seems that living in Hawaii disqualifies me for many panels and surveys.  I haven't been doing this very long, so at first I thought it could be something else in my answers but then there isn't any "Hi" as an option for which state I live in, hmmm, well we are just a row of  little specks out here in the great OP. LOL 8)

I lived in Hawaii for two years.  Moved back to the mainland a year ago and when I was there I didn't have any real problems doing surveys and gpt sites.  Yes I do remember coming across a few surveys where there was no option for HI but that was rare.  I didn't do any panels though so I can't comment about that.

I really don't think thst your location is the determining factor. I think a lot of the problems are due to the fact that so many of us doing the surveys are all prettty much the same as far as their profiles go. I don't qualify for a lot of surveys either, mostly because the quota for my "bracket" has already been met.

I'm over 70 and retired and NEVER qualify, so don't feel bad. Fortunately there is plenty of money lying around here I can pick up with no problems.

okay, this is a bit off-topic, but it seems
like a good thread to ask since its we're
talking about hawaii  :P

i've heard that food prices in hawaii are
outrageous? my in-laws travel there every
few years and have mentioned, for example,
a gallon of milk being close to $10? i figure
it has something to do with importing it and
such. just wondered if it was true about the
price of groceries.

good luck on qualifying!

How is the weather? My family and I are originally from Hawaii. I was born in Kaua'i and my siblings were born on the big island. But now we reside in the mainland. From Hawai'i to Alabama.... what happened???!!!  :dontknow: :angry7: :BangHead:. My mom married military and here we are. I miss the food from home, especially the poy and lau lau. Well anyways, hope that everything works out for your surveys!

OK I couldn't pass this up, My husbands family is from Hawaii.  Actually Kauai so my children are ...would it be...hop o holies? and I would be a holli or hollie?  Oh I can't remember what it is. Any way they tan real good!!
What I remember from my visit about the food is that someone was always eating rice. If they were not eating rice they were cooking rice, from a rice cooker!
Sorry, I don't know anything about your actual comment.  I would think you would get more qualifications because they don't have so many people from your area?!
So anyway good luck
  :)

Food can be expensive and I found as a whole food was more expensive than where I'm from but when I was there I found a way to live cheaply or as cheaply as I could.  You just have to look out for sales and know how to bargain shop.   When you get sales the prices can be comparable to prices on the mainland.  Milk wasn't $10 a gallon but it was close.  I don't drink milk myself but the most I ever remember seeing was almost $7 but that's when it wasn't on sale.  Generally you can get milk cheaper than that.  Fruit and veggies at the supermarkets were expensive so I always bought them in Chinatown because it was way cheaper than the supermarkets.

You mean hapa haole and haole? That's what Google's for. ;) Well, actually I was familiar with the terms already from visiting, reading about, and being mildly obsessed with Hawaii when I was younger, but I had to check Wikipedia to make sure I was spelling it right...

OP, I'm from Alaska, and I've noticed the same thing: some places simply don't have my state in the list. I think MySurvey in general didn't, so I kind of...gave it the address of an out-of-town friend. >_< I don't know what irritates me more, that sort of thing or the companies that slap a $10 or higher surcharge on stuff shipped to Alaska or Hawaii or require you to use UPS or something. We're part of the US, guys! We can get totally normal mail here! It doesn't even take that much longer!
Like travel? Want to read about life in Alaska? Read my travel blog! I've also got some fiction book reviews.

Hawaii sounds nice but the Florida Keys are cheaper. Anyone on here from the Keys? I would like to know more about them. Thanks
