Heading to Vegas in a week
« on: December 08, 2016, 07:34:18 am »
I don't know how I got talked into it (I guess I'm easy) but I will be headed to Las Vegas next Thursday to help chaperone the high school boys and girls basketball teams that my nephew and niece play on.  I still can't believe that school board authorized a trip to Las Vegas for high school kids!  I have never had the urge to go to Vegas but take advantage of any trip that I can.  Anyone ever been to Vegas?  Any suggestions on sites to see (preferably cheap?)??
Have a wonderful day!

Bring your spending money if you gamble. if not, take in some sites. I always wanted to go to vegas but still have not made it. maybe when the hockey team goes there so It will be a lot to do besides gamble.

Vegas is one of my favorite places to go but the visits are few and far between.    I can't imagine going with a group of High School kids.   Having said that, one place I would go and take the kids is to watch the water show in front of the Bellagio.  It is a site to behold.  Check into what time it starts and try to get their early so you can have a place up front.   The water show goes on while music is playing.    I'm sure there are lots more free things to do with the kids, just do a search and I'm sure you'll find tons.

Not sure where you are staying but if you can go to downtown (not the strip) the Fremont Street experience is a very cool thing to do.  Not sure of the times,  you would have to check but there is a light show overhead each night that is a fun experience.   When I was there, there were several bands playing outside that were free to listen to.

I do like to go to the strip in the evenings that's when all the lights and things look pretty. You will need to take lots of money if you are going to the casinos and some of those places have cheap buffets and stuff like that. I have siblings that live there, and I don't really like going anywhere when I am there because the only time I go there is if we have a death in the family.

I understand that Vegas has become more "family friendly" in the past few years so I don't think it will be a problem for these kids or you.  I haven't been there for many years so I really can't offer any advice except to enjoy!

We are going to go there in April. We aren't big gamblers, but we are going to meet some of my husbands friend for their 50th wedding anniversary.

Been there a couple times.  I get bored with the casinos quickly.  Not a big gambler.  Check out downtown and Hoover Dam.

Enjoy a new experience.  I've been to Vegas and it was overwhelming for me because of the crowds.  I actually met someone on Match.com a few years ago.  He flew to the Vegas airport and I drove down there to have a date with him.  Vegas is about a 3 hour drive from where I live.

Personally, I prefer Mesquite.  There are about 3 casinos in Mesquite so I can have a little bit of fun gambling and it's only and hour and a half drive from where I live.  I enjoy renting a car for 24 hours and making a day trip out of it.  Some of the casinos offer great prices on food when you're ready to eat.

Have a great day!

The best thing to do in Vegas on the cheap is to just walk through all the hotels and see how beautiful they are.. enjoy the ambiance.  They decorate for the holidays so it should be really pretty. A lot of the hotels have free shows going on, on the outside of their hotel.

It is usually pretty cold there this time of the year, so dress warm.   Have fun!

Wow!  Was I in a culture shock!  Vegas was way too overwhelming for this country girl!  It was sure different from the hills of Kentucky! I don't think I will ever get some of the images I saw out of my mind!  Our kids were great, though!  Very good and well mannered.  Our girls' team came in 2nd in the tournament.  The boys placed 5th.  I saw some of the biggest kids I have ever seen in my life - 7+ foot tall!
Have a wonderful day!
