Do You Nap?
« on: December 01, 2016, 05:59:50 am »
I've been reading more and more increasingly that the amount of sleep you get is directly related to your health.  So...do you nap during the day?  Is it because you don't sleep well at night or you have very stressful and work filled days?  Do you have a condition where fatigue is an issue?  If you do nap, when do you usually nap and for how long?

I don't usually nap.  I might if I didn't sleep well or if I got in late and got up early, or if I don't feel well.  But normally, no.

In very stressful days I take a short nap. Fifteen minutes seem to be enough napping time. It is true that "the amount and quality of sleep directly affects your health".

I'm not a napper but my husband is, he can fall asleep in any chair.   If I take a nap it's like starting the day all over again.  When I'm sick I might take a nap but I'm not a person who can lay down for a quick 15 minutes.  If I go to sleep it's a long sleep.   I'm retired now and there are times I wish I could lay down for a few minutes.

I have a couple of naps (or more) every day and often just fall asleep wherever I happen to be. I even went to sleep sitting on the couch while I was talking to my wife, but now I try hard not to do that again. A nap for me can last from 15 minutes to a few hours, with the average about an hour. There is no plan, just as needed and I just accept it as part of growing older.

Usually not. I don't really like the feeling waking up during daily naps, anyway. Not really refreshing.

I nap very rarely... when I do sleep in the afternoon I am quite cranky when I get up...
Yes it is true that the more you sleep the better for your health... but it also depends on the level of your sleep.. you could sleep 3 minutes very deeply that would count like 3 hours of tossing and turning....

Most of the times I don't even have TIME to nap... too busy during the day... I relax only at night when the kids go to sleep

I try to lay down  for a short time every day, i need to take the pressure off of my hip.  If i go all day  without it, the hips just pains me all night and then i don't get enough sleep.  If i should fall asleep it is  not for very long at a time, Hubby seems to be able to  sleep quite a bit. But that is ok.   I understand his condition.  Of course  part of his problem is he can't sleep long at night and then he is up.  Then falls asleep on the couch for awhile and and then up again and back to bed.  I wish he could sleep all night, but  nope.

I know baby takes a lot of naps but also when growing older and older, the more naps would occur, usually about an hour.

I sleep when I sleep.  Some people say that too much sleep can have a negative impact on your health.

I say....

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

I believe people who have certain health issues and nutritional deficiencies can experience sleep disorders.  Then if they don't experience quality sleep - that fact could have a negative impact on their health.  It can become a cycle.

Certain nutritional deficiencies can lead to insomnia.  A calcium deficiency is a great example of a situation where a person is in too much pain to sleep.

A vitamin D deficiency can lead to sleep disorders, as well.  Vitamin D helps people who have immune system disorders reduce their inflammation so they can sleep.

B vitamins; and especially B12 can lead to a situation where someone might have more energy during the day and experience better quality sleep at night.

B1 helps people breathe normally at night so they might not need a CPAP machine.  Obstructive sleep apnea can leave a person feeling fatigued the next day.

B Complex is important because it helps people deal with stress and some people lose sleep because they take stress to bed with them.
Have a great day!

Napping is an awful way to spend time. People who nap tend to be lazier.
