plantar fasciatis?
« on: November 14, 2016, 04:25:30 am »
Does anyone have experience with this? I may of spelled it wrong. I've had foot pain for months and went to the doctor the other day for blood pressure check and so on. She thinks I have the plantar fasciatis. I was told to take Aleve twice a day for 2 weeks and I think she may of said ice my foot each night? Also no exercising for now. Will this go away on its' own?

No, I don't have any experience with this.  My son had a planters wart when he was in 6th grade.  I bought some over the counter gel and he used it regularly until it was gone.  I just developed a weird callous, wart looking thing in my hand.  I'm a cake decorator so the pressure from the pastry bag is always rubbing that spot.  I've read that many times they just go away on there own...but it can take months.

Foot problems? What about bunions? What causes them? I think all the foot problems we encounter are cause by the foot wear we use.

My daughter had that she worked at Safeway for 15 years and was on her feet all day. It really was painful when she stepped on her feet first thing in the morning. She got good shoes which helped not sure what kind of meds she took. She had a baby and quit working so that really helped. Maybe you need a job where you sit down also she stayed in one place without walking around much another foot problem.

No, Ive never had plantar fasciatis.  But I would go see a podiatrist rather just taking pain medicine. Medications only masks the symptoms.

No personal experience, but isn't this what Peyton Manning had?

I had it last year. Not to upset you, but it could take from weeks to months to heal. It's caused by the ligament in your foot that's attached to your arch being strained. in my case, it happened in my good leg because it's taking on the added weight that my bad leg would carry.

Since I had worked for a Podiatrist for almost 20 years and went to him after my knee surgery (since I couldn't bend my knee enough to take care of my foot),  he gave me a strap to wrap around my foot at the arch which helped somewhat. Shoes with a really sturdy arch helps too. He also gave me exercises to do during the day. Before getting out of bed, I would do a circular motion with my foot, first in one direction, then the other, then pointing my toes down, then up.

As for a bunion, that's enlargement of the base of the big toe that causes a "lump" and the big toe may bend towards the 2nd toe. It could be caused by a lot of things but mostly from standing on your feet all day for years or even tight, pointy toe box shoes like high heels. Mom used to have a bunion and she used moleskin to pad the area. If it's really bad, you can always go for surgery if your doc thinks it's the best treatment.

Hope this helps.

blessedwith3boys I would ask for a referral to a podiatrist

Actually I do have a Plantar Fasciitis. I went months and my doctor not knowing, till I demanded going to a podiatrist and within 10 seconds of him examining my foot, and pushing at the right point, he told he what it was.

I was given Voltaren/Diclofenac , take 2 a day. After taking them for a month every day, my foot was feeling great!! But then, I was told that I should only be taking them when I plan on being on my feet alot

I was told to buy new shoes, ones that bend more under the toes and NOT ones that bend in the middle. Also while at the podiatrist they made me a cushioned wrap that I have to wear daily, it sits in just the right spot that that helps too, however the elastic of it is getting loose so it slips back and forth :(

They also gave me a couple pages of exercises Im supposed to do

And no it wont go away, I was told they can do surgery to cut the muscle but its only temporary

For those that dont know what Plantar Fasciitis is, if you look at your foot, in the archway right before the ball of your heel is where this hurts, the best way I can describe it is if you had a marble in your shoe that you kept stepping on in that spot :(

I've had it myself. I feel for you because it's no fun. My massage therapist told me to get a golf ball and roll it around under the affected foot while standing on it for some relief.

Yeah, it hurts like crazy but it helps take away the pain.

And watch what shoes you wear. Heels should be totally avoided while you're dealing with plantar fasciitis. Pamper those tootsies for a while. It takes a while to heal.

If you have a really good massage therapist, he/she can work on your foot but it hurts a lot. However, the pain will be temporarily alleviated afterwards.

When I read the title I thought it was the scientific name of a plant. LOL...(never heard of it.)

I don't have that (I got tendonitis in both heels from "living in Crocs",  and it took it about 2 years to go away but I still have foot pain from fibromyalgia) and the only shoes I found that I can stand to wear, are also recommended for people with plantar fasciatis.  (They are kind of expensive but I find them necessary.)  They have more info on their website about the different types of shoes & reviews from people that have bought them.  They ship them out super quick, which is so considerate of them!!  (When a person is in pain, comfort can't arrive soon enough & they KNOW this!)

They are called "Kuru's".  I've bought 3 pairs so far from them (2 different styles) and after giving my feet a few days to adjust to them......the pain really subsided by quite a bit.

I have had it for years.  I wear specially made insole.  I could barely walk without them.

I have it in both feet. A few years ago when it was very bad in my right foot my DR gave me a shot which really made the pain go away. Well at least for 3 days, it felt so good I went ziplining and on the last platform we had to race, when I jumped off the platform it pulled the tendon which pulled the bone and I broke my heal. I was wearing a nice black boot for almost a year before it healed. Not exercising is not good though, you need to keep stretching  it. You can face a wall and put you toes on the wall and lean in, that always works as a good stretch. I now only wear Asics sneakers also, the DR told me too and they seem to work. But they have to be the good ones that cost about $130, the cheap ones aren't that great.

That's the other exercise I was told to do, too, but it was too hard to do since I can't put a lot of weight on my bad leg.

As for pain, I only took Aleve. No prescription meds. I do have a high pain ________ (can stand a lot of pain before I take anything)...gosh, having senior moments today.  :)

I practically live in Crocs. Because of diabetes, doc told me to get a pair of diabetic shoes but after checking the price, can't afford them.  The one pair of Crocs I wear has a high arch so I wear them most of the time.

I experienced that, standing 8 hours for work everyday hurts your feet. I tried everything to ease the pain and one that helps me bigtime is insets in my foot that I bought in walgreens for $13.
