No gloves??
« on: November 13, 2016, 07:32:42 pm »
I went inside of a McDonalds and bought a cold coffee. While waiting for my order, I saw employees handling food and not wearing gloves! So I asked a manager why no one had gloves on and he told be "because they use sanitzer. But I never say anyone (other than that manager) use sanitzer. Turn off!

That doesn't mean they didn't use a sanitizer at all. They just didn't do it in front of you.

I agree: "All food handlers should wear gloves at all restaurants".

Sometimes food is hard to handle with gloves on, but I think they should still wear the gloves.  I worked at a snack bar at a bowling alley and also worked at a school cafeteria for a couple of months to help out and we hard to wear gloves.

You always, ALWAYS, handle food with gloves. As a former cake decorator, I can tell you that's one thing that was drilled into us when I got my food handler's permit, as well as you ALWAYS wash your hands when changing gloves even if you just took a pair off - it's precaution for a reason, and if an inspector comes in and sees employees not following protocol, the establishment can face a hefty fine.

Suppose someone has a cut on their hand; by not wearing gloves they are potentially contaminating your food. Sanitizer alone is not enough. I would be contacting the heath department ASAP.

Then don't eat there.   Most restaurants do not use gloves.  And it does not matter if they do because they do everything with gloves on and still handle the food.  I saw a girl at Walmart in the deli wearing gloves and wiping her nose with her finger and before she got my chicken I ask her if she cared to put clean gloves on.  There are actually a very very few number of restaurants where the employees use gloves.  And Subway they wear gloves then go to the register and handle money then go back to making sandwiches.

It is not a law that all food handlers must wear gloves.  Wash your hands yes.  I have worked in food before and none of them required us to wear gloves.  NONE of them.  And if you watch the employees in any restaurant NONE of them are wearing gloves.

I volunteer at a soup kitchen and we have to wear gloves while preparing ready to eat food (salad, cakes, etc) but not for food that's going to be cooked.  I guess there's different rules at food places in in each state.

I have seen many places that don't wear gloves.  I work in food manufacturing plant and they do not wear gloves but have to wear hairnets and earplugs.  I tell people all the time if they saw how things were made they would not eat them.  I never eat the product that we produce.  Thankfully I am in the office and don't see everything.
