new debit card
« on: November 05, 2016, 06:34:52 am »
when I called to activate my card, I was calling from a landline phone.
landline phones are second rate now.
one of the the bank reps I talked to thought that the automated system "didn't recognize the number" when I pressed it because it was from a landline phone.
I couldn't get the prompts to work when I pressed the correct number. [automated system]
I tried three times, maybe four.
finally, I asked the bank rep if he could do it.
he said that he would have to send me my new random pin number in the usps mail.
maybe I should title this "modern technology"

Was the landline the number you used to sign up for the card? You need to call from the number they have on file for those to work. It's a security measure.

Maybe so that is just crazy - it seems like every time I try to do something automated it turns into a huge pain with some kind of problem.  Oh well what are you going to do?   :confused1:

I just activate my card through their website.. When I apply for a debit or credit card they send me a card and an activation number. After putting the activation number, I can type out a pin number that will register with my card. Could do it in an atm or call them, but doing it online is simple and quickly.

You'll want to double check next time to make sure you're calling from the correct number. Although sometimes things like that just happen. Last year I got a new debit card and called from the number it's associated with but I still couldn't get it activated. Had to call the bank and get them to do it for me.

you have to make sure the number you are calling from is the one that you put as your main number.  absolutely hate using the automated numbers that you have to talk to. they never understand what you're saying

I know your three jobs keep you busy, but that's why I like having none so I can just go down to the bank and sit and watch them do it for me.

The new technology can be a real pain sometimes.  But most of the time it is great!

Go to your bank and they can help you change your pin number.

Wow that is strange - I've never had an issue with something like that.  Did you call from the same number you used originally???  I know that's how they "track" the phone numbers.  But anyway, glad you got the whole thing resolved.

My mother died at 105 last year and she could never get used to punching buttons on her phone while talking to an automated machine.  It's hard for the older generation, and when it doesn't go smoothly, it's hard for the younger generation as well.  Sometimes, I feel like the machines are taking over.  You have to adapt or you get left behind.

whenever I call an account, I have to call from my cellphone because the accounts only recognize that number.

Anytime I get automated system and it doesn't work I try hitting Zero to get a live person.  Doesn't always work but sometimes it does.  Had problems with my debit card not accepting at certain locations that worked before and went directly to the bank to solve the problem and they called the debit card division for me.
