the "why" question
« on: November 03, 2016, 08:10:34 am »
a child of three years old or so will inevitably ask his/her parent "why.....?
when you start answering the first why question, it leads to another why question.
the questions keep coming.
a parent seems to have an answer to each one until there are no more answers.
the question answer session is definitely exhausting.

It doesn't get any better when they get older.  My daughter told her 15 year old step-son they he could go to a friend's house but had to be home at 6:30 on a school night.  He kept asking why.

I'm naturally inquisitive so I still ask why and how. It drives my husband crazy. When we lived in Galveston I spent all my free time outside of college at the library. Coming home I'd tell him what I learned and bored him to sleep. I am the type that if it's broke take it apart learn how it works and find the problem to get a solution. I've never had to call a repair person.

Oh, I remember those days - there was one little girl in particular who was the "why" child and she did exhaust anyone who would answer her.

I personally believe that a child (or an adult, for that matter) is quite intelligent if they are inquisitive. How else would we have inventors, entrepreneurs, humanitarians and teachers?  :star:

Besides, it keeps your own brain sharp if you have to supply answers you haven't thought about in a while. Think about it as a fun way to keep learning while you're helping someone else develop a love of learning.

This is why you tell your child that they have, say- five "why" questions for the day and when you have answered that many you don't answer any more!  The countdown is on!!

I think it depends on what they are asking and how they are asking it.

You become wise being around wise people.Bad association also spoils useful habits.

If Jesus said you are to forgive someone endlessly how can you not want to help someone become wise?

Prov 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

A child's curiosity is never settled even into adulthood!
Have a wonderful day!

Growing up, I was the "Why?" child.
My dad would answer my whys with, "Well, why do you think that is?"
He made me think, and taught me to question more.

When my daughter was about 8 years old she asked where did babies coming from.  I explained it all to her, she other questions.  I told her if she had more questions-ask me until she fully understood all the ins and outs where babies come from.  My daughter was inquisitive and I have always taught her that if you don't understand, continue asking until all is clear.  That was her first question about sex.  I never put her off when she asked questions, no matter what it was.
