To answer your question, I am praying FOR people in Authority.
I am praying TO God the Father...the same God referred to in the Lord's Prayer in the Bible.
Nothing has happened to the Lord's Prayer that I am aware of.   When I pray to God, I also use my own words....I just talk to Him.

The pdf gives 30 ideas of things to pray to God the Father for those in Authority...—our judges, police chiefs, educators, school board members, military officers, elected officials, and others who serve our country in leadership.
Some examples of things to pray to God from the pdf include: 
Pray to God the Father that those in authority  be honest in financial, tax and ethical matters.
(1 Corinthians 6:10, 1 Timothy 6:6-10)

Pray to God the Father that those in authority have courage to resist manipulation, pressure
and the fear of man. (Proverbs 29:25, 2 Timothy 1:7)

Pray to God the Father that those in authority endeavor to restore the sanctity of life, families,
divine order and morality in our nation. (Ephesians 5:22-6:4)

       I think this pdf has great ideas to include when praying to God.  I would not have thought of all the ideas suggested nor known the Bible references for them.

God the father?Doesnt Jesus say in Lords prayer,"Holy or hallowed be thy name?"Plus bible says there are MANY gods.So the one Jesus referred to as you referred to "God the father"has a personal name.
